Wow, I didn't think it was actually possible to 'hack' through Skype, as I asked someone on a game to add my on Skype and they're response was 'People can hack through Skype'.

people on this forum are idiots. You cant IP hack. Or get hacked through skype unless you accept a file or get jdbed. Grab a vpn. you can get your ip through all instant messengers because they use socks.

 

Msn, Skype, E-mail, Forums, viewing images hosted by the attacker.

I change my ip all the time, but almost no one knows how to do it.

If you guys want I could write a small guide on how to change your ip, I can guarentee that almost no one here uses it.

- Asking your ISP won't work
- Resetting your router / modem won't work
- Ipconfig /release /renew won't work (unless no static ip, usually only for mobile internet)

 

So there is no way to get people ip just by their runescape name?

 

I'd like this guide to be elaborated on, as it doesn't really inform the average user on how to stay safe.

People never intend to give their IP to another person, but they fail to realise that is what they are doing if they do many different activities that connect their computer with another person's.

That being said, good start I guess. I go through my own proxy server for all internet traffic, so I'm -mostly- good.

 

Good guide, will help some members that don't know what that is out.

DDOS is thrown around too much. One person's computer can't knock you offline, they'd need like a botnet.

We're talking public ip not private ip..

 

It's what ruins runescape PKing etc. If nerds start to lose, they take extreme measures to do this. Even worse if when people ask to old school DM with normal pots etc, all pre-2006 stuff, then quickly get claws out and bam, dead.

Weeps, it goes more in-depth than that. When you netstat over Skype you only get a mask apposed from an IP which can be decoded. Same goes for any active instant messaging conversations. You can even obtain an IP address through mail services including Sythe.

Irregardless if somebody wanted to obtain your IP number it wouldn't be that hard but they don't only need your IP number - open ports come into play as well. Most use IRC botnets to DDoS users rather it's in-game or taking down a website. The kiddy scripts that you type in an IP address and it claims it will DDoS them are a joke. All that does is send rapid packets from your remote machine to the other user through a specific port (if it's open)

Now if they setup a botnet with a few zombies (the more the worse it will be) they can not only DDoS you but easily obtain personal information. No matter what you do on the internet there's always security risks. You need to go into your routers configuration and properly organize the open ports from necessary to unnecessary for the ones that are already open.

To DDoS somebody it does not go remotely to your computer - it has to go through your router first. That's why I'd recommend closing off all unnecessary ports (FTP/UDP/TCP that are unknown or not used) the only real ports you need open are 80 and 8080 (HTTP) to access the web. Some applications or services require other ports to be open which you can manually open them if need be.

A DDoS isn't a single person. A single person is a DoS.
