[APPROVED] Gravedigging off site Report

Hi, Last couple month, I have seen several reports for scams that executed over 2-3+ years ago. The users in question getting reported do not use the site (1 - 2 post(s) ) and/or is already banned on the forum, In my opinion forum moderators and administrator should focus their time to prevent scams that will happen instead of banning inactive users that will probably never come back on Sythe.Org

I don't see a difference between grave digging a 2016 post, or Grave digging a 2016 report for a banned user.

So my suggestions would be to give a advertisement for wasting staff time.

i'm pretty sure the staff team would prefer to use their limited time they give to the site to try to investigate current active market users instead of banning/add reason to inactive or banned users.

So by your definition, regardless of what's been done, the past is the past? You're saying you've seen "several" reports, but just for your information, I've currently just arrived on reports dating December 2016, so all those reports I've made before are from scams commited from 2017 till now.

While I understand I might pile it on a bit - in my opinion in no way a scammer should be allowed to permit business here, regardless of their join and/or activity dates. They might be inactive here, but they certainly were still active elsewhere and who says they won't be returning here after to continue their scamming endeavours?

Even if staff was dumb enough to approve this suggestion, how do you think is best for them to set right what they've done wrong (by your understanding) those 12 years now? "Hey pal, sorry you were banned for all those years but someone entertained himself in the Report section so here's your unban"

 

I get what you’re saying, but I’m sure staff are able to prioritize which reports/users are more critical, and can handle those in the order they deem appropriate.

I’d also imagine it does not take much time to add a valid report to a user’s ban reason.

75% on the low end of scams can easily be prevented with 2 seconds of research and reading the stickies. I'm not sure how you think staff could do more to prevent scams. Wortel isn't even staff anymore, his reports compile all the information and require minimal effort from staff to ban the users. You're a dork.

Old blackhat offences are forgiven so long as they happened off-site over 3 years ago. Or atleast that's what the update was about. The newer ruling of recently means any blackhat is allowed so long as it happens off-site. Though, you can take my word that when someone purporsely targeted Sythe members in a way of blackhat over 3 years ago that even to this day they are permanently banned.

By your reasoning time heals all wounds. Believe me it doesn't. Now this market evolves all about trading and there's a million threads on here about how to prevent getting scammed - so you can assume scamming isn't likeable here. Because something happened a couple years ago doesn't make it any better.

If you want to educate your users of anything aside of all the bullshit here then it would be that scamming (fraud) is wrong regardless of day, age and/or location. Online, offline, ingame, in real life - anywhere.

 

I disagree. People change - They should not be hunted/targeted for their past. Every market in the world has a dark side to it. Trying to exterminate that merely hurts the market as a whole.
One might even use an interesting example of a hacker providing gold to buyers -> these people provide gold at very cheap rates to people that might otherwise be unable to afford it - or they provide it to sites who then can sell cheaper to the consumer. This allows the consumer to obtain cheaper goods and leaves them money to spend elsewhere -> perhaps on a skilling service or some other form of trade. This keeps the market alive. So instead of one gold site selling expensive gold and consumers using all their funds on it-> the "dark--side" of the market not only allows the consumer to obtain cheaper goods, but it allows that same consumer to then go spend more money in other aspects of the market-> which then boosts the "economy/market" as a whole. When supply is infinite(like in a game where its generated) you need these sort of underground people to keep the market alive and thriving.

 

So if it's up to you you'd kill the entire police force just because the criminals are expected to learn from their mistakes by themselves? Some people are simply too blinded by reality they can't even comprehend they are doing something wrong - for instance in here the worst they can expect is to have their reputation ruined (if they had any) along with their forum profile disabled.

 

Blackhat people dont go away. They just move to other avenues. Whether that's them making a relationship with a gold site and dumping them all their hacked gold, then that site selling it to sythe consumers, it always ends up back on Sythe and it's ecosystem. You seem to misunderstand that this is not a problem you remove or exterminate. Why punish users for older offenses? I'd rather see any offense > 1 year old just ignored/forgiven. Maybe then instead of the underworld of gaming hiding behind the "big sites" and the relationships they've had to make, that activity will come back to Sythe, it's already here anyway just in the disguise of "big gold sites". Every person you've banned is still here, just not in the same form.

 

Keep in mind this thread doesn't reflect about blackhat offences, it reflects to all rule abusers - including users who scam others of their hard-earned money regardless of how much it's been.

However to refrain from spamming this any more, I'll agree to disagree since you're in the minority of thinking that way anyways.
