Graphics Scamming
Currently most artists make the graphics with a watermark on it, the buyer will then purchase it and the artist will remove the watermark. Some users however will decide that they do not want the graphic piece that they requested.

Under the current rules the user that requested the graphic piece and then, upon completion, decide that they don't want it anymore get to walk away without any penalty.

I feel that this needs to change. For example, if you order a firecape and they go first, once they have gotten you the firecape you can't simply turn around and say that you do not want it anymore therefore you won't pay. You'd get banned for scamming.

In the firecape situation, the person that requested it is basically scamming the provider of their time. This is the same principle as when a user refuses to pay for their graphic piece.

I propose that once a graphic piece has been finished or had a considerable amount of work put into it (obvious that more than 5 minutes has been spent on it) that if the person that requests it simply decides he doesn't want it anymore, they be held accountable for their actions and be eligible to be reported as a scammer.

Thoughts?

The alternative is to make the buyer pay first, and then what happens when the selling artist doesn't complete it for some reason or it's not satisfactory? Not only did both the buyer and seller waste time, as per what you're concerned about, but the buyer loses both time AND the money they paid.

I would support this, as long as he can only get banned/reported if he claims he dosn't need it anymore. If they say for example they don't like how it looks, I would except the GFX artist to work with the buyer until he's happy with it. If in the second situation he can't get reported I would be fine with adding such a rule.

Support 200% There have been too many instances where I have wasted numerous hours of my life trying to please someone with their pickiness and in the end they just leave. It makes me want to blow up. There are many solutions to this such as make the buyer go first but in some cases they just wont budge. I would really love to see something done about this.

If they don't complete it for whatever reason then the buyer should get a full refund, the artist is giving an insufficient effort. If it's not satisfactory then the buyer should just request some changes.

Some artists just do a shitty job, and I'd refuse to pay them. I don't care how long they work, if it looks like shit then I'm not paying for it.

I will always continue to do this if an artist can't please me.

This.

When you pay someone to get you a firecape, you know exactly what you're going to get.

Why did this happen then?
I've paid you twice for website designs that were shit and I'll never use only because of the time you wasted on them. :/

Fair point I guess

The question isn't like or don't like. it's simply deciding they don't want it. And they don't need it. They refuse to pay and don't want it remade or anything. If you're not satisfied you will get it redone.

It's the artist's policy.
They can require going first, or they can do the watermark shpeel. It's the discretion of the seller (graphic artist) that determines this, and personally, it should be their responsibility as to how the work pans out. Prices are to be agreed upon beforehand. That should be common sense. If they do a crappy job, then they shouldn't get paid, but for anyone serious about graphics and respectable in their output of work, this shouldn't ever be an issue.

tldr no support babe

You order from that person knowing what sort of outcome to expect, I believe it's the artist's responsibility to get the order just the way you like it but the customer shouldn't be allowed to forfeit the order.

No support, ever.

If the work is shit and I was not pleased, I wouldn't pay for it.

Unless there is something stated in the TOS of the artist (for example "If you are not happy with the graphic created for you and choose to cancel your order, you are liable to pay X amount of what your order would of cost) then you cannot label people scammers.

I support this. Artists display their work and customers know what they're getting into as far as those examples go with quality. That is why people ask for examples. Graphics is all based on time and if I spend 2 hours with someone working on a design for them to say they don't want it that is 2 hours of other work you could have gotten done for someone who was going to pay for the work.

Either way there needs to be something done about it. It isn't fair. The graphics section has always gotten the shitty end of the deal in everything and to have people who don't know anything about graphics or how it works make decisions for us is completely ridiculous. I would like to see active gfx members or at least someone like Moh, Spray, or Alt who have graphic experience be in on the decision making process.

I personally think this is kinda the same thing as for any other market on the forums. When you don't have alot of vouches you have two options. 1: Don't go first with the knowledge that it's gonna take you alot longer to get customers, if any at all. 2: Go first and risk being scammed untill you reach the point that you have so many vouches and old work to show people will not even discuss about going first anymore, they just do it because of your reputation.

At the other side, in these kinda trades the seller puts alot of personal time which makes the case alot more difficult because if a buyer walks away you just literally wasted alot of your own time.

Conclusion: I think the rule is good but, it is kinda hard to set standards for how good something must be. One person likes it, another one doesn't. What if the person makes quite a bad and simple sig, the buyer hates it, but the mod seems to like it. The buyer will get banned for not buying something he/she didn't like at all.

Maybe a few GFX-makers can get around the table and set the standards for this?

I don't agree on the premise that if you got something that was completely unworkable then you shouldn't be forced to pay for it. I figure it should be done on a case by case basis where as if you provided the fundamentals set out in the agreement and a decent effort is put forth then they should be obligated to pay something if not just suggest changes to their product so its to their liking, however if you give them garbage than they can do better on by following a tutorial you don't deserve anything and should refund them.

I thought that was assumed. Unless the person making the graphics is a complete derp or something they're going to give them their best effort. It's always been reasonable to give people changes until they are happy for me, and most if not all of the GFX artists I have talked to. I spent 3 hours one night with Lilly working on a sig for her and she just kept changing it and changing and eventually s/he said 'Well I really liked the original one you did, can I have that one?' and by then the PSD had been changed so much there was no going back because at first s/he hated the original. So after numerous hours I was just like 'Here is an image of the first one, the PSD is beyond repair' so s/he gave it to jiwi and had him run a couple of layer adjustments on it.

That happens to people all of the time, when it is not the artist but the customer who has little knowledge of how GFX works. Sometimes you can make the best piece ever made and someone won't be happy with it because it doesn't look like X or Y artist's style.
