Right now, I have an EVGA GeForce GTS 450. It's got a 128-bit bus width, 1GB GDDR5, OC to 900Mhz core, 1800Mhz shader, 2000Mhz memory.
In GPU intensive applications I've noticed my GPU load maxes out WAAAY before my memory does. During a FurMark 1080P benchmark, I'm at 100% GPU load with 13% memory load. It's obvious the amount of memory I have isn't the bottleneck, but the memory bandwidth.
So I ask you.. how much of an improvement would I see if I upgrade to a GTX 470 ($179.99 on EVGA's website right now.. incredible price
) with a 320-bit bus width, 1280mb GDDR5, and similar clock speeds. Would the 1.5x faster bus speed give me a 1.5x greater performance? The 470 also has 448 stream processors, compared to the GTS 450's 192.. but I'm not sure what kind of an impact those have anyway.
