Thinking about getting one as a small birthday gift to a friend who really likes tech stuff. Anyone have one that wants to share their experiences?

I got given a Star Wars themed Google Cardboard for free from a mobile store near my work. I gave it a go with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and while there isn't yet a lot of applications that are compatible with the technology, it's definitely cool. It feels slightly gimmicky and cheap, but considering you can buy it for something like $4 makes it a cool little gift for those tech nuts out there.

Isolates your phone in a way to make an affordable but not so top of the art virtual reality experience with a handful of apps. So basically like Oculus rift and other famous VR stuff but super cheap and you use your phone as the screen but there are only a few apps that work with it and they aren't that great. But when I say "aren't that great" that's in comparison to the one that costs hundreds if not thousands of dollars while this one costs $4.

From the way I interpreted it while using it, Google is trying to make the whole VR tech accessible to everyone with it. It at least allows for a taste of it, so if it does become a thing, people will have an experience with it.

Probably not a bad marketing technique to be honest.
