There's a decent chance that Jagex will shutdown all major gold sellers; this would put the entire gold market in the hands of communities like this one. In that case, gold would shoot up in price. This is the way i think Jagex is looking at this situation right now:

shutdown large gold selling sites > mass ban bots > eliminate free trade

I'm justifying this scale by the number of subscriptions they would lose.

Regarding the person who got their account scammed, never buy accounts. as simple as that. only buy accounts if they claim and have proof they are the original and only previous owners

I dont work for them, nor am i retarded. Was that neccessary?

Im simply stating, a large company that has been running as long as Sythe, and that is a fully established organisation; will and does not scam.

However, people who have sold accounts to them; and then GOLD4RS re-sell those accounts to new owners - those new owners might end up getting scammed; simply due to the original owners recovering back the accounts - that is not GOLD4RS's fault. Its the risk that comes with purchasing accounts.

On topic of Gold Dropping, i beleive we have reached an equilibrium. Prices i have been selling for have been the same since January, whether it be here on Sythe or other sites.

I can only predict Gold to rise again, soon - if Jagex manage to eliminate the botting problem.

I would assume it is because right after free trade players bought some gp a few times until they could afford their dream gear and stats. However now that they have the things they want there is no need for them to buy any more gp. Along with this there is a much more competition with Gold4RS because people are realizing they are getting ripped off so they come to Sythe and other markets. Gold is going to be super cheap in the coming months, if Jagex doesn't do something about the influx of bots RS economy is likely doomed for good.

However I think that there is a good amount of players that use the black market often that continue to buy gold. I have a feeling sales dropped because people that did not usually RWT on runescape probably made a lot of one time purchases with companies like Gold4RS after FT but ended up not doing it again.

In a year we're going to be shocked at the current .7-.8/M price of gold, just like we are now at the $6-7/M pricing from 2005-2007.

I remember buying membership for 1M back in the day.

Also, Scottay, you make some good points. I almost hope Jagex will catch more botters (economy botters - fishers, woodcutters, etc) in order to save the economy of RS. If it continues the way it is now, RS will be doomed within several years - partly due to inflation, and partly due to the fact that everything will be automated.

I love the way you accuse people who have genuinely been scammed that they were trying to scam a company that can barely speak english, yet your the one with the TWC.

OT: I'm glad that sythe sellers prices are lower than Gold4RS, considering many of the GP sellers on here are really trustworthy. I think that the price now compared too what it used too be is much better if your a customer, but due too the extra amount of cash that has entered the game recently due too rares going up so much sellers are relying on selling in more bulk now, so there still making there money.

Prices may be dropping, but the more gold that is in circulation, the more gold that gets lost during deaths (in non-pvp areas).

Not only that, but the more gold that is in circulation, the less items will be worth.

Gold4rs runs purely because not everyone is aware of a safer, cheaper alternative. When you type buying runescape gold into google does Sythe show up at the top?

I hope it settles down and finds concrete price soon.

They can't shut them down, that's what the problem is. If they could, they'd be long gone, but a huge chunk of gold-selling sites (like RGold4Rs, not like Sythe) are based in China, where the laws there are extremely different than the UK's laws regarding cyber-activities.

Botter's control the economy. If Botters were taken out of the game, then Merchants would control the economy. Ergo, Botters can't be eliminated.

The more gold in circulation, the less gold is worth. As such, the price of ITEMS rises (such as the insane price of rares now adays, Nex armour, etc).

And the gold getting lost during deaths is kind of a false, as now with Jagex's new items kept on death system you now automatically keep your cash stack along side your 3 (or 4) best items.

    To address the OP:

I cannot see the price of gold dropping to a dramatically lower amount than it already has.

In my opinion, there is still a steady demand for gold (of course, who wants to spend X amount of time earning 100M when they can work less than a day and pay $60 to get it instead?). I do not see that demand decreasing, as there are quite a few cash dumps in the game (I will admit probably not enough) to the point where the average gold buyer will quickly spend what they bought.

Aren't the dice game and flower game player hosted gambling games? If so how do you figure they would decrease the price of gold? No new gold enters the runescape economy by playing those games. Its simply transferred from one account to another, therefore it should have no effect on the price of gp.

There are money sinks in every game that reduce the amount of gold in the economy. I don't play runescape so I wouldn't know much about runescape money sinks, but I guarentee they are there. Anyone who plays WoW knows about monkey sinking. WoW is bad for it.. mounts, special pets etc.

Yes there is a constant flow of gp coming into the economy through raw gathering (woodcutting, mining for example.) Items made by raw materials that can be alched for profit bring in a lot of gp into the market. However there is also a lot of lost gp in the economy every day. People die and lose large amounts of gp sometimes. People also just simply quit and don't care, they don't realize they can make money off of selling the gold they leave on their account. Many accounts also get locked.. this includes some of the larger RWT accounts. I'm sure people have heard of accounts with 100+ party hat sets being locked.

I gold farm quite a bit and personally I don't see how the gp price could go down much more. With current gp prices, when you subtract investment costs (server payments/vps payments, auths, membership payments), you are barely left as a profit as it is. If the gp price were to go down any more I can guarantee that other gold farmers would realize that they can't profit anymore and just stop farming completely. In turn this would effect GP merchants. Where would they get their gp to merchant now? From a farmer's perspective most of the demand comes from GP merchants and likewise from a merchant's perspective their supply comes mostly from gold farmers (maybe not directly, but most likely indirectly.) It all comes down to supply and demand; eventually there will come a point where gold farmers stop farming and gp merchants won't be supplied with the stock of gp they used to be. When supply is low, price goes up.

Gold farming used to be very profitable (at $1.1 -$1.4/m it was hard not to profit.) This is why farmers could get away with selling for below normal prices.. because we could afford to.

Or even pre 2005. Mills were like 20$ each - When rune boots first came out, they were going for 25+ on ebay.

    Stuffs cheap now haha.

There is too much gold generated in the game by ALCHING, monster drops, and whatever. Yet there is no where for the gold to be lost to...

Hardly anyone buys items from Runescape shops ( general shops, weapon shops ). Therefore, gold is constantly being added into the game at alarming rates which creates an excessive supply of GOLD. GF!

They can do nothing about the mass gold selling sites, as most of them are in China/Korea where UK/US laws can't touch them.

Actually I'm pretty sure China recently made it illegal to run gold farming businesses there.

Close, but yet so far. They made it illegal to buy real life items (cars, ipods, phones, etc) with virtual money.
