He would then need to pay for an entire new front end, instead this has sat for 2+ months being worked on in staff lounge...

Or get someone to substantially alter it thus creating a new derivative work which is no longer subject to copyright

You cannot suddenly get sued for something and take it down/remove it and make the lawsuit go away. You would pay the damages it has caused to the party who's work was stolen, and then pursue the company who created it for you which is now making you take a loss.

So let's say he takes it down, how much am I owed for having my layout "borrowed" for what, 5 months?

Either way, nothing is pulled from Crown's pocket. He is simply paying me first as you said to in the other thread and then GG will reimburse him, putting him out no money and in the end GodGenesis pays me the damages and we're done with. I suggested skipping the crown part as I made this report about GG....
