The cabin in the woods? Are you guys serious? That is absolutely one of the worst horror films i've seen.

Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean it isn't a best horror film to others. You're the one who came here for others' opinions.

If you want best all-time horror films, you can go with what the typical crowd says a lot of the time: The Shining, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Silence of the Lambs, Carrie, Friday the 13th, Halloween.

 

If you say Cabin in the Woods is bad then you aren't going to like any decent horror movie. Just watch the saw movies or the final destination movies again.

 

Seen all of those except The Shining.

And, I never said it isn't. I meant to say the worst horror movie, IMO

What? No. Not true. Some people don't like Naruto, that doesn't mean they don't like other anime's like Naruto

And what's the hype about Cabin in the woods? It's seemed more gore than horror to me. Not many frightening scenes at all.

Oh and the ending... don't get me started on the ending.

 

It is metahorror. A huge in-joke for those lovers of horror out there. It isn't really supposed to be 'scary' per say. Go back and watch it again and think about horror tropes. It is a very smart movie if you get it.

As for good horror films definitely watch a lot of the German Expressionism films. The Cabinet of Dr. Calibri, Nosferatu, Metropolis. Then the Hammer horror films of the 60's, The Quartermass Experiment, Dracula, Frankenstein. Also watch the Quartermass and the Pit series. Watch anything by David Lynch, especially Eraserhead. Watch any of the Kubrick films (not really horror, but great films in themselves.)

Jacob's Ladder, Pi, Barton Fink, and any Aronofsky film is good to watch if you want more modern films. Satoshi Kon does a really good job on the anime front. That is all I can think of off the top of my head for the moment.

It is a lot more like Scream than any of the Scary movies. Scary Movies are parodies, whereas Scream and Cabin in the Woods are, like I said, metahorror.
