Howdy, guys and gals. Help meh out, pls? My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost two years, and I'm not sure what I want to get her for our anniversary.

A bit of background:
-I'm 18, but it's a pretty serious relationship. It's not like we're trying to get married or anything right now - just taking things as they come - but it's also not an on-again, off-again fling.

-For our whole first year, we decided that our gifts shouldn't be worth much monetarily, and that worked out great. But we also mutually wanted to get each other nice things, so for Christmas last year she got me an iTouch that was ~$150 and I got her a silver, $150 Tiffany ring that I knew she'd been wanting. For her birthday last December, I got her some killer silver owl earrings that cost around $60 (seems like lots of women love owls, for whatever reason? if so, she's no exception to that rule at all), and for my birthday this February she got me a few nice Polo shirts and some shorts worth a good $120 or so. It's not a one-up each other thing, but I'm basically giving examples on a price range of $50 to around $200 at the highest bit.

-I'm getting her a couple of sentimental gifts, one's related to a complicated inside joke and the other's a bunch of roses because it's sort of a tradition for a couple of reasons, and she loves roses. I'm looking for help on a cool gift that doesn't necessarily have a lot of "meaning" but that she would be really happy with. Think interesting jewelry or clothing, maybe - I know most of her sizes, and the ones I don't know I could probably get from her roommate.

Our anniversary's September 1st, so I'll have to shop around and decide pretty soon. Thanks for the suggestions! :)

Maybe a gift certificate for a day at the spa? Or a gift card to one of her favorite stores?

When you're together does she ever browse one particular brand?

Perhaps she says "i could really use that" regularly. Something for her car, house, etc.

It doesn't also have to necessarily be a materialistic. You could plan an entire day of events as her gift. Going to the aquarium, dinner, festival.

Example - I live in Chicago. An entire day as described above would be - a trip to Shed Aquarium (they just got a new special attraction, you can pet penguins and spend 15 minutes with them). Once we're done there, we could go to the pier for rides and social time. To top the night off, dinner at ones favorite restaurant.

Buy her a few of her favourite items and those sorts of thing but treat her to a home-made, candle-lit dinner. Something private and romantic and put the roses you said she loved in a vase as the centre-piece. Give her your gifts and go from there.

Assuming he knows how to cook.

Homemade, candle dinners are a bit cheesy. To me, says you're too cheap to take me out and be sociable.

If you're looking in that price range electronics are always an option.

An ipod touch or a nexus 7 could be good at that price.

Candle lit dinner will do it a long with her favorite things I agree with that statement 100%. 2 years is a long time and you have to make sure you hit those romantic strings that women like.

You've spent so much money on her >.< be careful or she'll start expecting it all the time.

The candlelit dinner suggested by others would hit the ballpark with what your looking for, and reiterating from what others said, it doesn't have to be materialistic but maybe get her something smallish that fits the criteria of your inside joke and set a day out for her to show her that she's worth it ;). Then top it off with a candlelit dinner with roses, have rose petals as a path to the bedroom, roses on the floor, and on the bed, roses in your mouth, and top it off with some sensual love. HAHA maybe not the last bit, but you get me :).

Hope you have a nice anniversary and I hope there are many more to come.

I always felt like dinner wasn't a present even if it were candle lit and romantic. Still have a candle light dinner but get her something special.

Honestly, she gets (playfully, sort of..) angry with me for spending any money at all on her because she knows I never have too much of it laying around to spend. She's not the kind of girl who expects expensive gifts, and she'd much, much rather give a gift than get a gift. I just wanted to get her something really nice that she'll like and use a lot, and when I give it to her I know she'll act mad but be really flattered and happy underneath.

Side note, I'm not a Bible-waving Christian at all, but for any of you Bible-knowledgeable folks, I'm a big fan of the quote, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" from Matthew. I find it quite true, for pretty much every way I can think of to define treasure at the time - whether it's time, money, or just the effort to make things work out right sometimes.

So thanks for the suggestions and well-wishes! :)

I'm not sure we're even going to get to spend our actual anniversary together because of schoolwork and family time over the three-day weekend, but I'll at least be back with a Sunday/Monday update depending on whichever day we manage to squeeze a few hours out of.

I'm joking he's alright, just isn't good a romantic things :P

HAHAHAHAAHH!!! :(

Best of luck Smurfin! My husband and I got married on our 3 year anniversary. Was the best gift ever! I tend to be the same as your gf. I hate/love when my husband gets me gifts. I prefer to give than receive.

Enjoy your anniversary and wish you a happy many more!

I got her this, and it seems like she really enjoyed it :)

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!
