Curious to see your opinions on getting back with an ex.

In my opinion based upon previous experiences, an ex is an ex for a reason, getting back with an ex only leads to further arguments about past failures to communicate within the relationship.

Has anyone ever had a real successful and happy relationship after getting back with an ex?

Anyone else tried to get back with an ex, and how did it turn out?

I've tried twice to get back with my ex and both times I ended the relationship because she was very "lazy" and I think till this day that she lied to me.

This....an ex is an ex for a reason. That statement is incredibly true. I am currently back with my ex. I was with her for just over 2 years, broke up with her 6 months ago and now we've been back together for the last 2 months. All the reasons that I had for breaking up with her in the first place are all coming back into my memory. I'm a jerk off and we should have just stayed broken up haha. But hey, this is life. Dumb choices, I'll ride this one out haha.

I'm so embarrassed i did this and i have no idea why. i broke up with my ex of about 1 year and then 2 months later she sent me a in a relationship request on Facebook .. and i accepted, which i regret to this day, all i got was made fun of for dating my ex, lasted literally 2 weeks before i realized how much of a bitch she was.

My parents dated in high school for about a year and a half. Broke up, 2 years outside of high school they got back together, now they got a happy marriage of 18 years or so and 3 kids. Let life take you where it does, sometimes you don't know what you really had until it's gone. Simply asking us suggest that you might be thinking about that right now.

"An ex is an ex for a reason" is a rather poor way of blanketing things. Frankly, humans are fickle and change with time. Further, people don't actually appear to be capable of considering that maybe, just maybe they themselves were as much to blame for the relationship falling over in the first place.

If both of you are able to live with your mistakes and move on from them, and if you can keep a cool head about being in a relationship to begin with (think with your heads, not your cocks) then I don't see why trying again with someone you already know well would be a bad thing. All you can do is wait and see where life takes you.

Majority of them women I've dated have broken up with me because I don't "spend enough time" with them so if they asked to date again I would say no simply because I don't deal with people who re-think serious decisions they made in the past. One other thing those sob stories you see in movies where the guy can't stop thinking about her and bull crap like that I have never seen any couple like that.

Ditto, my girlfriend and I learned from our past together and we have taken steps in ensure what break us up before doesn't happen again. Therefore, I do think it's possible to get back with an ex. However, I would caution that ya'll are ready to get back together rather than just doing it because it's convenient and what you know.

I'm dating a girl that I've broken up with (ex) and we've been happily together for over four years now. Ex's could be ex's for so many different reasons that it's hard to answer this question.

If the partner is an ex because of a serious problem such as cheating, lying, stealing, etc I think there should be some very serious thought put into whether or not you have a possible future with that person.

If on the other side of things (which is where I am,) the partner is an ex because of what I would call a "silly" problem like stupid arguments, money problems, etc, the relationship could be completely fine and it'd be no different than dating another girl.

At the end of the day every relationship is different and should be judged in a case-by-case manner. :p

Well, you have to think of your emotions and your past before you think of getting back with your ex. As I can see, most relationships wont work after they get back with their ex because of unsettled problems or issues back.

I'd never date an Ex....They were left behind for a reason.

I'd say that it really depends on how your relationship ended. If it ended poorly then I'd say no just because you'd probably be arguing about the same things that destroyed the relationship. If the breakup was mutual then there could be a possibility of getting back together I guess. It works for some but not everyone. I personally would not get back together with my ex. I can't see it happening, lol.

A lot of you made some really good points. Apparently I ride the fence on this one. I agree an ex is an ex for a reason but then again people do change over time, so I am torn about this. Personally, most of my exes broke up with me stating "You're too perfect for me." and then they go into this self analyzing phase wondering why would I want to date them. This is not me being "cocky or full of myself" by saying this because N4N0 has seen first hand when we started dating, 3 exes were trying desperately to get back with me which was very annoying. They leave me because I am "too perfect" and then months/years down the road when I start to date someone new they want me back. I am happy to report that I get along with all but one ex from my past. We are not friends but we are distant acquaintances, the other was just overly obsessive with me.

This happens to me a lot. We would break up, just to get back together in a few months. It's not a bad thing depending on the reason for the breakup. Sometimes people need space and time for themselves.

My cousin's girlfriend broke up with him when she was on vacation in brazil, they're now back together and moved in with eachother. They dated for almost 3 years before the break up, now they're over 4 years together.
