This is a great idea as I stated way earlier on Discord @Sythe. RWT needs to be allowed and just implement game bans for those who cheat seperate from a forum ban. Much like DNT, users could be banned from game and from RSPS market etc.

This is something that could generate a lot of traffic and revenue, even if its not officially branded as Sythe. fwiw I'd do it

They mostly all have different sources and different clients depending on which version of the game the server is running. The source can be pretty easily changed to have custom things added or removed using simple java script coding. There are some pretty in-depth tutorials on how to alter the sources all over the internet.

Every RSPS is different, each one provides their own client(as soon in the above link), the only RSPS that provide the same client for multiple RSPS are the giant ones like soulsplit used to be(it would load a loader which had a pk server, a 718 server & a 317 server and u could pick one).

You would need a client developer who can get the memory usage down and patch memory leaks aswell as occasionally add client sided updates(like orbs, Remebering logins,etc).

You'll need a server sided developer to do server-sided updates such as(bosses, pvming, bug fixes, skilling, anything ingame just about).

I'm guessing you wont need a web developer(lol), I think u should use IPB forum's personally like version 4.1+ or whatever so people don't deface the forums if it grows, you'll also need webhosting with ddos protection & a vps with ddos protection, as the rsps grows u may need a dedi to handle the playercount to prevent lagging.


ALL Rsps typically have voting systems, heres one some use for example:

Voting is 100% NEEDED as it allows you to get higher in rsps toplists which lets u generate playercount.

Donation systems theres all kinds of, A popular one is rsps-pay.com.

In terms of server type, I would highly recommend a osrs server with just osrs items OR a 317 with merged items(as in chaotics, osrs items,etc) such as ikov(a huge rsps) had, one of those could be big, 614's and 718's have gradually all died off.


The RSPS market is gradually slowing down/flagging but quite a few remain, I'd say probably 1/4 of the RS playerbase is still left in RSPS(so 20k-40k)


Also, Jagex has shutdown RSPS in the past, If the Sythe RSPS grows to large(as into the thousands of players), you may run into trouble there, I personally knew someone who owned a giant rsps and he was eventually forced to shut it down(after making half a million dollars I might add), Jagex has NEVER targeted anything with under 1500-2k+ players, so its practically improbable they'll come after the Sythe RSPS, and Most RSPS are UK or American based, Since ur in New Zealand u may not even have the same copyright laws.

Also I would not use Sythe for the Sythe rsps forums, sponsor it here, advertise it here, but DO NOT, start dealing with punishments and stuff on here, u can use some of ur sythe staff or people from here to moderate the RSPS, but make IPB forums & setup a staff lounge with punishment logs and whatnot and have them moderate it on the IPB forums.

You literally don't need any coding skills, a monkey could figure out how to host a RSPS and add their own spin to it

 

Basically, The true Artists of RSPS are all gone, the ones who made the canvas(The ones who built the actual bases which all RSPS are made from now such as Hyperion).

Now adays I view RSPS developers as people who just paint on the pre-made canvas and add their own spin to it.

Yes anyone can download and host a source, but if Sythe does that its not going to go anywhere, they need bugs fixed, content added, new features, to keep the playercount happy.

Nobody wants a RSPS which is leeched(taken from the release section) then hosted and doesn't get any updates.


Yes its easy to do that, no that's not the right path in my opinion, we don't need sythe to rewrite an entire server but he should at least take a released one that looks good and add some stuff to it.

It can be advertised on sythe, I just don't think it should be linked to sythe, that may cause issues.

If by some miracle the RSPS goes huge then Jagex comes along, u don't want them doing a 2 bird-1 stone kind of thing lol.

 

RSPS for sure, wouldn't really technically play it myself as i'm busy with work related shit but I would probably afk on the server or something.

Make items rare as fuck and allow rwting lol.

 

The fun rsps' were the ones based off the 2011 game that focused on pking and things of that nature. To be successful I think you'll need an active team who would host events and things of that nature within the game.... Hmmm... Where could we find a team of people focused on developing the Sythe community that would host events?!?!?!? (Sarcasm) time to trademark SyScape

If you want to make(or lose) shit tons of money Sythe, Honestly Osrs or a 317 mix is what u want bud, they are super hot( 6 of the top 10 RSPS are 317/osrs) and the playerbase is gradually consolidating around the top 10 and anything smaller is dying.

 

Are Pre-Eoc servers not popular? I feel like a Pre-Eoc server would be so good because it's literally the in between of OSRS and RS3 and it isn't available as an actual Jagex product anymore.

 

Not really, a mix of 07/Pre-eoc would easily be the most popular. E.g. ikov 1

 

Interesting, I have no experience whatsoever for Private Servers. I guess I always assumed people played whatever version was unavailable to them. I thought the 2012 era had a lot of hype around it.

 

Pre-eoc is my personal favorite, but a lot of people play rsps's while playing 07

 

Funny you say that, I was looking to do the exact same. Pre-Eoc my favorite as well. So my asking was a bit biased .

But I still see people on Official RS forums and reddit and such asking for Pre-Eoc Servers. That's why I'm pretty shocked to hear it's not the most popular RSPS.
