SOTM is now mostly tags. Personnally, im not a fan of tags but people seems to like them so maybe I should try to learn about these xD however, there should be a Competition concerning tags and concerning names signatures. Cause I find its 2 different things.

 

Personally, I think tags are more suitable for SOTM. It's just more traditional imo, even if I'm not the best at them.

 

This. Before I was active with Sythe, there are other sites that would host these all the time. I wouldn't even compare myself to a lot of the people who entered them and still don't. Out of the 40 I participated in I only won twice (to put things into perspective). The transition between tags and typography was interesting for me. I absolutely sucked for someone who was an intermediate at making tags. The two are completely different, but holding knowledge to both is very useful.

Maybe in the future there will be a theme that features only typography.

 

Tags take 10x the skill and knowledge to make.

 

I really like the second one, it feels like everything is super smooth and belongs together. Just wondering guys. Are ya'll seeing something that I"m not? I really don't like the halo one but it has the most votes.

 

Tbh I really dont see how... You mostly play with lights and get renders :/ well thats what it looks like

 

Try making one, you will see they are infinitely more difficult to do well than a text signature. That in itself was one of the reasons I put off doing an entry for this until a little bit later than I became... busy.

The idea is to make it look easy and smooth. Some tags can go up to 100+ layers of all sorts of things from color corrections, balances, drawing, rendering and more. It is a lot more than render out some text and slap some flares and nebulas on it. You have to know theory and have an eye developed for things. It takes a lo of practice and a lot of reading.

Edit:
Please for the sake of all things holy do not mistake typography and 3D text sigs. Typography actually takes skill as well. Designing a font from scratch is hard as eff.
