I've begun breaking down questions into sections and as I have been doing that more have been coming to mind. I've created an ENTIRE section for ranks. I'll fill in some more questions in that soon such as "How do I get one of the programmer ranks?"

I think I am going to make the entire first post just a table of contents and random info. Then each section will get its own post. That's what I'm thinking right now, anyways.

10. What is bumping?

Bumping is done when a user posts on his/her thread in order to bring it to the top page of the subsection in which the thread is posted. Bumps are anything along the lines of "bump, added, online, available, selling" etc. Anything that is used to bring a user's thread to the top of a the page in a certain section. Bumping is done to make one's thread more noticeable to people who look in a certain section.

11. When can I bump?

As stated in the Official Sythe.org Rules, you may bump once per 8 hours. Bumps include but are not limited to posting things such as "bump, added, selling, buying" etc. Breaking this bump rule will result in infractions, and multiple fractions may result in temporary bans ranging from 3-7 days, potentially more.

12. I see people who donated the same amount as me with a different Donator icon, how come?

These ranks are legacy ranks.

14. What currency do people trade in here on Sythe?

It ranges/depends on what you're trading. Many trades are done in USD or GBP. However, some trades are done without IRL Wealth and are done say between RSGP and MSP. As far as real life cash, the mains currencies are USD or GBP but things such as RSGP, MSP, etc. are all forms of money here on Sythe.

15. Help! Someone is selling/buying something not in my currency, how can i find out how much it is converted to mine?

16. What payment methods are accepted on Sythe?

Different buyers/sellers use various forms of Payment methods. Also, some buyers/sellers cannot use certain payment methods. For example, some common methods are Western Union, PayPal, PlayerAuctions, Google Checkout, CreditCard, GiftCard, MoneyBookers, MoneyGram, Cash by Mail, MoneyPack, Bank Transfer/Wire & Serve. However, Canadians cannot use MoneyPacks unless they have someone who can redeem them, and people from the US cannot use Interac Bank Wires/Transfers or UK Bank Transfers.

17. How do I get vouches?

Vouches are usually exchanged after trades. When trading another user, once trades are completed users usually exchange vouch thread links, which are posted here: http://sythe.org/forumdisplay.php?f=518

Almost all services/trades can be vouched for except those related to GFX, however vouches are NOT required after trades are done.

18. What is ban evading/vading?

Ban Evasion/Vading occurs when a user is banned on one Sythe account and creates another Sythe account to become part of the community or market again. The way this usually occurs is where a user will scam on one account, get caught and banned, then create a new account and attempt to repeat what they previously did.

19. I've been scammed by someone, what should I do?

Although it may seem tempting, do not go onto the user's threads and begin posting "This guy scammed me!!" That will result in you getting infracted. The best thing to do if you are scammed is to post a report here: http://www.sythe.org/forumdisplay.php?f=253

Be sure to read stickies such as: http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1118369 in order to make sure the report that you are creating is easy for mods to follow/understand so the user who scammed you will be banned as quickly as possible.

Almost all online payment sending methods can be charged back. Especially if the user sending the money is on a hacked online account. The SAFEST selling methods are Western Union, Moneygram, PlayerAuctions and MoneyPack,

24. What's the difference between administrators, global moderators, and sectional moderators?

A Sectional Moderator can moderate whatever section he or she is assigned to, for example a RuneScape Moderator can moderate all threads and posts in the RuneScape forums. There are sectional moderators for each of the following sections: Market, Other Games, RuneScape, Off Topic, Graphics, Guides & Support Center, Programming, and Community. These moderators also have permissions in these sections: Anti-Scam, Dispute Forum.

Global Moderators can moderate any of the forums on these boards. A global moderator is considered to be upper staff, as they are more experiences Sectional Moderators who have more power/permissions.

25. If I'm scammed, will I get compensation from Sythe?

No, Sythe himself is not responsible for any of the scams that take place on this website. If a user scams you and a report is submitted with enough proof to warrant a ban, then if that user ever pardons or disputes his ban and would like to be allowed back onto the site, he/she will have to repay whoever they scammed.

Your Sythe avatar can be 80px by 80px. If you donate, you can have one of 100px by 150px. (Copied from Dialatic)

27. How do I change the text under my username?

This text is known as a user title. If you never donate/your user title is never changed, they will change as your post-count does. Following this order:

0 - 24 = Newcomer
25 - 99 = Member
100 - 249 = Active Member
250 - 624 = Forum Addict
625 - 999 = Apprentice
1000 - 1999 = Guru
2000 - 4999 = Grand Master
5000 - 9999 = Hero
10000+ = Legend

However, once you have donated a minimum of $50, you can head to your donation perks center, which can be found here: www.sythe.org/donations and submit a request to change your User Title.

28. Someone is spamming my thread. What do I do?

The best thing to do when someone is spamming your thread is to report the post.

To do so, click this button which can be found at the top right of the post you're reporting. Report the post and post something along the lines of "spam, please delete" and a mod will get around to it as quick as they can.

Imposters are people who attempt to impersonate a trusted Sythe user in order to get you to trade first in an exchange. They will scam you and you will not be repaid, so be very careful. The best way to avoid imposters is to request a Sythe PM. It's very simple, and ANYONE who denies you a PM during a trade is most likely attempting to scam. In the PM, ask them to include a part of your current MSN/Skype conversation, that's the best way to know if the person you're talking to is the real deal or a fake.

You basically just copied and pasted one of my entire entries and just reworded some of it and added a few extras. Which is fine of course, as we're here to build on each others work and come to a final masterpiece, but could of at least stated in your post you were building off of my already existing submission, instead of just using it without recognition.

 

To be 100% honest the only submission I took anything from was Dialatic and that was the layout for the Abbreviations on sythe(then added a few of my own). I guess the answers are similar just because there's really only one way to answer the questions. I'm just answering each as I go along, sorry if they match yours/are similarly worded.

No, they are moderators of Sythe. They take care of the runescape section (possibly other sections, as well), and are in no way related to being a P-Mod on runescape. If there is a runescape moderator on Sythe that is also a P-Mod, than that is just pure coincidence.

I'm going to make my own answers for each question, because I feel that for a FAQ the answers should be pretty straight forward, and not overly descriptive. It also isn't great to have huge answers for this many questions because loading the page will take forever and would be a pain for a newcomer to browse through. I will also be adding my own questions in at the end as well.

What are 'vouches'?
Vouches are Sythe.org's feedback system. When two users complete a trade they customarily exchange vouches, which are posts on each others vouch threads detailing the trade. A user's vouches can help determine the amount of trustworthiness when dealing with them.

I'm new to the forums, is the spam forum a good place to hang out?
The spam forum is an area where users poke fun and enjoy messing around with each other. It is a great place to get to know the other users of the forum, but be prepared to receive your fair share of "newfag hazing"!

How to pronounce 'Sythe'.
Most people pronounce it "Sie-Th", but there is no official pronunciation, so say it however you feel is the correct way.

How do I request my thread to be moved or locked?
There are multiple ways to achieve this. You can report the thread and request it to be moved or locked, pm a moderator of that section or a global moderator, or enter LiveHelp and request that the thread be moved or locked.

What is "LiveHelp?"
LiveHelp is a built in feature of the website where you can go and chat with a staff member whenever you have a question or problem with the site. They will do their best to assist you in a timely manner.

What's an OMM / MM? What's the difference between the two?
A middleman (MM) is someone who helps two people complete a transaction safely. A middleman's job differs depending on the nature of the trade, but they are always there to help make sure neither party gets scammed. An Official Middleman (OMM) is an experienced middleman who has been deemed highly trustworthy by the Sythe.org staff. Their job is the same as a regular MM, but they are considered safer and more trustworthy to use.

First find the youtube video you want to embed. Next copy all the letters/numbers that follow the "v=" in the link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ). Finally, select the youtube tag option (), and paste the letters/numbers in between the tags.

How do I try safely?
There are many precautions you can take to make sure you are protected during a trade. Those include taking screenshots of your conversation with the other trader, using a MM or an OMM for the transaction, checking the other trader's vouches, requesting a PM when trading with high-profile members (to avoid imposters), and making sure to document everything that happens during the trade. You can never be too cautious!

What is bumping?
Bumping is when you post solely to move your thread to the top of the page.

When can I bump?
You may bump your thread every 8 hours, but this does not mean you can only post on your thread every 8 hours. If you have something constructive or important to add to the thread, you are allowed to post. A more detailed explanation can be found in the Sythe.org Official Rules.

Users who donated before July 1, 2010 have the legacy donation ranks, which differ from the current donation ranks. You can find more information about legacy ranks in the Sythe.org Donation Center.

Many different currencies are used to trade on Sythe.org, but the two main ones are RSGP (Runescape Gold), and USD (US Dollars). However, you may find many different buyers trading with and using other types of currency as well.

If you are trading for virtual currencys instead, you will have to determine a suitable rate with the other trader. Virtual currency rates are subjective and can be determined by a variety of factors.

There are many risks involved with buying and selling runescape accounts. The biggest one is recovering. Make sure you get as much of the recovery info from the seller as you can when buying an account. Also be aware that an account can be recovered at anytime with just the original I.P. address that it was created on.

Regular users may have a maximum avatar size of 80x80, while donators may have avatars up to 150x100 in size.

How do I change the text under my username?
This text is called your "User Title". It changes when you reach certain post counts, or you can change it to a custom title as one of the $50 donation perks. You may also change the color and font of the title by becoming a $100 donator as well.

Report the spammers posts and a moderator will deal with it as soon as they can. Do not respond to the post with things along the lines of "Stop spamming my thread" or "Please get off this thread" or that could be considered spam as well.

What is an impostor?
An impostor is someone who pretends to be a well-known member of sythe in order to scam another user. An impostor will usually use an msn address or skype name that is very similar, but slightly different then the original user in order to deceive anyone who isn't paying attention.

How do I avoid impostors?
Always request a PM from the user to make sure it is the real person. Do not get intimated when they say things like "It's the real me, I am not going to waste my time if you don't believe me", because you can never be too cautious.

What is a self-requested ban?
When a user wants to keep their account safe, or doesn't want to be able to access Sythe for a certain period of time, they can request a moderator to ban them temporarily. This ban is in turn called a "Self Requested Ban" or SRB for short.

What is a trade with caution?
A trade with caution rank is given to a user who shows signs of "shady" or suspicious trading. When trading with a person who has a TWC rank be extra careful to avoid getting scammed.

My Sythe account has been hacked. What should I do?
First request a moderator to ban you immediately, then you must clean your PC of the virus or keylogger. that the hacker used to obtain your info. Once your PC is completely clean you may then post in the recovery section (here) to get back your account.

Someone hacked my account and used it to scam, now it's banned. Can I get it back?
You must first prove that you were hacked, and that you were not acting under your own accord to scam those users. Also, depending on the situation, you may need to pay back the users who were scammed.

What do I need to post in my sales thread?
When posting a sales thread you are usually required to post pictures of the item you are selling. The rules of what must be in your thread varies from section to section, so make sure to read all the stickies of that market before posting a thread.

Why should I use MSN / Skype to conduct trades?
MSN/Skype are the most commonly used methods for contacting other users on Sythe. Using one, or both, of these systems will make it easier to speak with the other user during a trade.

Why do I see post icons I don't have?
Donators and moderators have access to more icons than regular users.

How do I include images in my posts, instead of just links to the images?
When you want to add an image to a thread, wrap some IMG tags around the link. You can do that by pressing this button and then pasting the link in the box.

Is sending money as a gift through Paypal safe?
Sending money as a gift through paypal is how you can avoid fees, but it does make it nearly impossible to get your money back when someone chargeback's the gift. Paypal does not facilitate transactions involving virtual goods, and can do almost nothing when the money is sent as a gift.

If I buy RuneScape account from someone, can it be recovered even if I add my email?
Yes. As long as the original owner still has the I.P. address that the account was made on, they can recover the account.

Can money be charged back via MoneyBookers?
Yes, money can be charged back via MoneyBookers.

I have been asked to show my gold/account via Teamviewer. I will not let the buyer to control the mouse, am I safe?
Showing your gold or account via TeamViewer is never a good idea. A person will only request to do this if they are intent on scamming you. If the person insists on doing so then it is most likely not a good idea to trade with them.

Are the websites advertised on Sythe safe?

How big can my signature be?
The maximum signature size is 650x350 pixels.

How do I know if I can trust someone?
Trust is a subjective quality, but to help determine a users trustworthiness you can look at the number, and the quality of their vouches. It also helps to get to know the person you are dealing with before the trade. Just remember to use safe trading habits, and know that you can never be too cautious.

Can I buy an @sythe.org email?
No. @sythe.org emails are not available for purchase.

Are chatlogs considered proof?
Chatlogs may not be used as proof in a scam report, however screenshots of the actual conversation are allowed.

Aren't moderators and official middlemen the same thing?
No they are not the same thing. While some moderators are official middlemen as well, they do not have the same responsibilities and are therefore different kinds of users.

How can I prove I actually have the things I am selling?
You can post a picture of the item with a note or something similar that says your sythe name on it.

If I find out that a user is ban evading, what do I do?
First head on over to the report a ban evader section (here) and read the sticky for that section. Then compile all of your proof and post an organized thread. If the evidence shows that the user is ban evading, then that user will be banned.

If you would like to dispute your ban make a post in the dispute forum (here). You must wait for a moderator to approve the thread for it to be viewed publicly.

How can I become an Official Middleman?
Visit the MiddleMan Applications forum (here) and read the stickies to find out how to apply to become an Official Middleman. Once you have finished your application the staff team will review it and decide if you will become an OMM. If you are declined you may apply again in 2 months time.

What is a fun rank and how do I obtain one?

A fun rank is achieved through good service to Sythe. Moderators can receive them after they do a certain amount for the site, and normal users can receive them from moderators if they're helping out, just as a thank you. However, they're extremely difficult to obtain.

 

Are the Runescape mods P-mods on Runescape?
No, these are Sythe moderators who moderate RuneScape sub-forum section. Sythe.org moderators are in no way related with Jagex.

What is a fun rank and how do I obtain one?
It is a funny rank which does not represent any forum status (like moderator, OMM etc.). You cannot obtain it by yourself, it is usually given by Administrators to the most loyal, hard working, sometimes funny members.
