(Fun ranks up for grabs!) A Fabulous Project for All Y'all Bored Chaps

    Hey Y'all,

Govind has told me I can give away TWO fun ranks to the two MOST HELPFUL people in regards to getting this done. I reserve the right to not give it to anyone and I will be choosing who has been most helpful. I won't give it to you if you only do one or two things and no one else did anything. You'll have to put a good deal of work into it.

If you look at the top of the forums, you see these gems:

Now, if you click the FAQ, it brings you to this (http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1199458) thread. However, we also have this (http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=670398) thread and them seem to contain different information. Both are also lacking crucial information which leads to people creating threads like (http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1440410).

Therefore I've decided that Y'all should pitch in and we should make ourselves the most kickass FAQ that has ever been seen by virgin eyes! How will this work, you ask (fuck you, you're asking whether you like it or not)?

    Simple.

Firstly people will post questions that they believe a are common or the answer to will help the average Sythe user or a new Sythe user or questions that deserve to move from Venom's post to JohnK's.

Secondly, people can post answers to the questions (or fixed or edited versions of answers in the FAQ already).

Thirdly, people can edit previously posted answers to correct mistakes, grammar, add more information, make it easier to read, whatever.

Fourthly, people can suggest that questions be cut into smaller questions (if answers are too big).

Fifthly, people can suggest groups of questions (if they all are related) and the order of which the groups (and the questions within them) go on the FAQ itself. Questions need not be in a group.

Sixthly (in my very not needing to be linear step by step process that's really not a step by step process), I will begin to edit the FAQ with people's suggestions in mind. I reserve the right to do whatever I want with anything for any reason.

    Seventhly, SUCCESS.

I might post some guidelines for writing later but just remember that you should keep it short(ish) and on the basics. "How do I not get scammed?" can be answered with a 9001 page book. State the basics (or the important stoof) and give them links to more information. If there isn't a thread with more information, just ask or make one yourself.

For those that contribute: I'll mention you in the FAQ. If you are insane and write over 9000 answers I bet one of the admins will hook you up with a fun rank or something else (although I never asked and if you really do do 9000 answers the FAQ might be a bit long).

    So, um, go for it?

A vouch is basically a confirmation of a trade. When a transaction happens on Sythe, you can vouch the individual you were trading with. Vouches can determine how trustworthy a certain member is. For example; if an individual has 50 vouches, they are usually safer to trade with than someone who has fewer vouches. But, the quality of the vouches is just, or even more important than the quantity. If the individual's 50 vouches were $1 trades, and another individual's vouches consisted of 30 trades of $100 or more, than the user with 30 vouches will be probably safer to deal with.

This is an example of a vouch:
Vouches are usually posted on "Vouch Threads," threads that list the vouches of a certain individual. These threads can be made, and found in this section: http://sythe.org/forumdisplay.php?f=518. Be sure to read the stickies in that section, and the Sythe.org rules, there are certain regulations you have follow when you vouch an individual:

    Vouch Section Rules
You are not allowed to vouch for yourself, or an irl acquaintance

There are different methods you can use so your thread can be either locked or moved into a different section. Firstly, you can report your thread by clicking the caution sign at the top right. You can ask a moderator in "LiveHelp" (located at the top of the page), if it's online. And, lastly, you can PM a moderator who has permissions in that specific section, or a global moderator. Administrators generally deal with issues of more importance. To find out which moderator has permissions in the particular section you need, and which of them are online, click this link: http://www.sythe.org/showgroups.php

LiveHelp is where you can use IM to talk to a moderator about any issues/questions you may have. It's not online all the time, but if you need to talk to a moderator, you can PM them.

    1. Check the users vouches and the quality of them.
    2. Use a trusted MM or an OMM for trades if you feel it's necessary (OMMs and MMs can only ensure the trade happens safely, it doesn't mean you're completely safe (i.e. account recoveries, chargebacks, etc.)
    3. Check the MSN address carefully for imposters.
    4. Do a background check to see if they have a malicious background (scamming).
    5. Check his ranks; individuals with moderator, OMM, and/or high donator ranks will be very unlikely to scam you.
    6. Now, users having a high post count/join date doesn't necessarily mean you'll never get scammed, but it does lower the chance. But, be sure to check that he isn't shady, and that he doesn't spam for his post count.

    What are 'vouches'?

Every once in awhile I feel like the term and concept of vouches confuses some people. Also it could explain that this doesn't always deem trustworthyness, and that if some does in fact have more vouches than you, this does not mean you MUST go first.

Should the name changing question be added in? It's in the rules but people still seem to ask.

Jonhk's has it already. It could use a rewrite, though.

I'd like to point out this isn't true.
The fastest reponse by JaGeX via mailing is to mail [email protected] pretending you are a parent.

You usually get a reply within a day, sometimes even a couple of hours.

How do I request my thread to be moved or locked?

There are different methods you can use so your thread can be either locked or moved into a different section. Firstly, you can report your thread by clicking the caution sign at the top right. You can ask a moderator in "LiveHelp" (located at the top of the page), if it's online. And, lastly, you can PM a moderator who has permissions in that specific section, or a global moderator. Administrators generally deal with issues of more importance. To find out which moderator has permissions in the particular section you need, and which of them are online, click this link: http://www.sythe.org/showgroups.php

    What is "LiveHelp?"

LiveHelp is where you can use IM to talk to a moderator about any issues/questions you may have. It's not online all the time, but if you need to talk to a moderator, you can PM them.

I think replacing it with Matthew's official statement would be better:

What's an OMM and MM? What's the difference between the two.

I've had quite a few people thinking that only OMMs can middleman trades and don't realize that technically anyone can be a MM.

I'll answer a couple of questions.

    What are 'vouches'?

Be sure to read the stickies in that section, and the Sythe.org rules, there are certain regulations you have follow when you vouch an individual:

    http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=721014
    http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=412717
    -----

Shouldn't this FAQ contain questions only relate to Sythe.org?

The spam forum is where users just fool/joke around. You should probably get used to the forum before you post there.

    (If I'm not mistaken)
It's pronounced the same way as "Scythe."
"Sy" is pronounced like the "Psy" in psychology
"the" is pronounce like the "th" in "Myth"

A middleman is a person who ensures both parties have a successful trade. Anyone can be a middeman (MM). But, to be an official middleman (OMM), you'll have to go through a rigorous procedure to ensure your ability to handle problems, large values, etc.

This is where you should post your MM thread: http://sythe.org/forumdisplay.php?f=307
These are the rules of the MM forum: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1302645

This is where you should post your OMM application: http://sythe.org/forumdisplay.php?f=308
This is the process to become an OMM: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1302650
This is a thread where you ask questions and for guidance regarding the OMM process: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1302212

This is a list of our current OMMs: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1302647

To add to the OMM/MM questions.

    It should be included that:

OMMs/MMs can only ensure the safety of the trade as it is being done. Just because an OMM/MM is used does NOT mean that you're 100% safe. For example in the RuneScape market, PayPal payments can always be charged back regardless of whether or not a OMM/MM helped conduct the trade. Accounts can always be recovered, even if the OMM/MM secures it, accounts can ALWAYS be recovered, etc.

    How do I trade safely?

^If someone wants to tackle that.... Make it short(ish). Hit them with the basics and link them to as many outside resources as possible. I don't want an 8 page answer in the middle. I want the FAQ to be easily readable with links to more information if desired.
