Frets on Fire is a music video game created by Unreal Voodoo in which players use the keyboard to play along with scrolling on-screen musical notes to complete a song, and is a clone of the Guitar Hero video game series. Frets on Fire was the winner of the Assembly (demo party) 2006 game development competition.
Frets on Fire is free and open-source software. The game is written in the Python programming language and is licensed under the GNU General Public License, though the game incorporates other free and open-source code under other licenses. The game's included song files and some internal fonts are proprietary, and their redistribution is not permitted.
It's actually very cool. You can make custom menus, mods, create and edit your own songs to play, download additional songs, and tons of other cool stuff. You use the F1 - F5 keys in accordance with the keys. It feels really natural compared to Guitar Hero. The only awkward thing is the F5 key, which can be separated from the rest of the keys, depending on what keyboard you have.

It is open source, and written in Python, so if anyone out there understood then you probably just made a new stain in your pants.

no, it's for PC exclusively. It's just freeware,

Also, the 360 is basically an iron cage. Unless you want to mod it (Which is almost a guarantee for lifelong ban of Xbox Live) it is untouchable, which means you cant tweak anything to work on it.

And this is basically guitar hero, and 360 already has Guitar Hero.

I have it, you can use your Les Paul on it by hooking the a USB cable into the USB port on the Les Paul.

Unfortunately my computer is outdated so it lags a lot. For it to work perfectly you have to have a fast computer, one mainly designed for gaming.

Sounds like some cool stuff. I'd have to be bored and willing to mess around with it though. I prefer real instruments, although the computer may be used for composing, etc.

FoF is ok, but i much prefer playing a modded copy of gh2 on ps2.

Pshh, I hate that game.

Reason: I can't use my keyboard, I only got a laptop :[

Besides, my score is always 0 for some reason..

horrible compared to GH,

Theres a better GH online free alternative called guitarzero.

guitar hero is much better. its hard to play it on the computer

guys, the point isn't to compare it to guitar hero. It's to have an alternate "free" version of guitar hero. In guitar hero (unless you have the PS2 version), once you beat all the songs on expert (if you can), your done. In this, you can make your own songs. So there is an infinite set list on frets on fire. Sure it is a little buggy and the keyboard isn't the easiest thing to use, but it still owns.

Also, if it doesn't run on your computer, set it to the smallest dimensions possible, disable full screen, and don't turn on any high quality settings. This wont affect the gameplay, just minor menu graphics.

And about Guitar Zero:
There's a new PC Guitar Hero clone in town, and this one is much more of an outright clone than the popular Frets on Fire. Going by the title Guitar Zero, the game pretty much blatantly rips off GH, menus and all. The song interface itself is only slightly different.
