How can free will exist when God allegedly created every single particle in existence, and set them all in motion?

    Bump for great potential, etc.

This touches on the theories of fate and destiny. I personally believe in both of them. Yet I do not believe in a higher force (i.e. God). I just think that in this dimension destiny exists. You can predict something but there really is no list of possible outcomes. There is only one.

A few days ago I was thinking that if somone say a thousand years in future invented time travel and they traveled back to 1970 say. Now based on the theory of destiny we would already know about it. Get what I am saying? It happened in the past, not the future. Now say I went into the future and shot myself. My future self would already know exactly when I am coming and exactly where he well be shot. He wouldn't be able to stop it because I already did it.

Well if anyone makes sense of this you get a cookie. Thanks guys

You could say free will is an illusion. our thoughts and actions are motivated by instincs, pre installed ways of thinking. We may think we are in control, yet we are doing what we are programmed to do.

Having said that, i like to believe that there is more. Why are some kids born "evil" when there brought up into a family that are loving and caring? Personality to an extent is hereditary, 1/3 of your mum and 1/3 of dad, yet theres that 1/3 that comes from you. Where does this 1/3 come from? Could this be what we call a "soul"?

Our brain is made of physical matter, but by no means are we machanical. So to answer your question, we dont have free will, but we have some sort of will, we have some control over our lives, just not total control.

Humans are not programmed to do anything. We are not robots.

The thing that has intrigued me is that humans are made up of billions of very small cells over which we have no control. Not how we take control over the ones that control thought I have no idea and probably never well have any idea how the brain actually works. But something that is always possible is that really humans are actually some experiment that another civilzation much larger then us and much more advanced then us has produced and really we are synthetic material that was made for a unique purpose. Hey any thing is possible.

The answer I was looking for was "particles". Humans are composed of particles, each of which has a definite position and velocity, and, in principle, can have its entire future mapped out.

Hmm well, if that's so.. then I guess those particles change in position or new particles are formed when events happens in our life correct? We do have free will since we can change the events that happen in our life which in way is mapping a new future for our brains?
Hmmm.. But the decision of changing the events is up to the particles that are already in our brains according to your theory..
So I guess we don't have free will.

Now you get into quauntum mechanics. Now who would it be that maps out the futures of these particles I ask you.

Quantum mechanics is a huge fallacy - but even if it were not, however you look at the wave-function, it's going to collapse a certain way. It may be impossible to determine which way, but it's still an objective event that occurs in the future.

Why do you talk of quantum mechanics in that way?

We are given a free will at birth. But society restricts this free will we are given with laws and rules. This is the free will of another person, so is it a race of all free wills to control everyone elses free will? Or is it that we all have no free will, but abide by society constrictions?

The double-slit experiment proved that light could not be entirely particles. However, due to lack of evidence for ether, any tunneling mechanism, etc., it was immediately assumed that light must be a wave-particle duality. They did not give the wave-only theory any thought.

In any case, it's a discussion for another thread.

    Given? By whom?

Yes it is better suited to be discussed elsewhere. I end my part of this discussion and hope that you Shredderbeam can find even more knowledge to shove into your already overflowing cranium. Good luck

Well I think if there are particles in the brain with certain velocities etc etc, I think they do change frequently.. For example. My cat walks in, sometimes I chose to play with it for a bit and sometimes I don't, Everything happens in our life weather it is bad weather, bad sleep or just a bad day. We think differently and we chose things differently.. So I don't think our brains could be mapped out if technology did ever reach that stage, I can see what point you're trying to give but I think that we have control over our life... not fully but some. But that's just my opinion.

So what I say is, we do have SOME control of our brain but not full control.

Destiny is a form of faith. Since i don't have faith in "a power above" i don't believe in destiny or the fact that our lives have been "written out".

Is it not the particles in your brain that determine whether or not you will play with your cat?

Determinism is known through logic, which rules out faith.

Every time when you think YOU decide something actually you don´ t. It was not really your desicion, raher te desiciion of your subconsciousness. Many things base on it. I have tested it. If you take a shower for instance you many times think of something else and your hands are washing your body, you do not really give the command. You wash yourself without giving the brain commands where exactly and so on. It is your subconsciousness.

Also when driving a car for instance. I will write a longer thread based on this, as I have red a very interesting article about this.

    Kind regards, D0berman.

If you wanted to move your arm upwards then your brain does send a message, but under your command, and if that's not the case then we are our own brain.

We cannot have free will unless we know the future. Otherwise we are just doing what a previous chain of events has led us too.

Ex. You see a banana and you are hungry, so you eat it; Minutes later you see an apple; Apples are your favorite but you aren't hungry because you at a banana, so you don't eat the apple. It was your destiny to eat that banana, because the previous chain of events put that banana in front of you and the fact that you were hungry led you to eat it. However, if you knew that there would be an apple (assuming you couldn't know it was there unless you knew the future) then you would choose that apple. But not knowing there is an apple, you will always choose the banana. Free will would be choosing the apple.

We are constricted by preceding events.
