I need some help quick.

Basically I have found a lot of stuff on how to graph a polynomial equation but,
how do I find the formula of polynomial on a graph?

Basically I have a graph of a polynomial and I have to find the formula. How would I do this?

 

Hmm, if you could edit this post and post a picture of the graph itself, and how many degrees the polynomial must have, I think I could help you. If not, somebody else definitely could - but a bit more information would be nice to have.

 

Sorry its blury. The numbers on the x axis are -1, 3, 4 and the number on the y axis is 3.

 

To find the solution to this problem, we must first use what we know about graphs of functions. When you try to solve for the roots of a function (the points on x where y is equal to zero, also called the x intercepts) you first try to break the formula down in pieces. For example, if you wanted to know the roots of f(x) = x^2+4x+3, you would factor it to f(x) = (x+1)(x+3), and you would know the roots/x intercepts would be -1 and -3.

In this question, the roots are already given, at -1, 3, and 4. So we just throw them into an equation really fast:

f(x)=(x+1)(x-3)(x-4)

and then we can expand it:

f(x)=(x^2-2x-3)(x-4)

f(x)=x^3 - 6x^2 + 5x + 12

Great! we have our formula. But wait, when we graph it, its gets all wonky, like its stretched out, and doesnt have the right y intercept. Well, we have to modify the formula now, with a vertical stretch. This just means we will multiply the entire formula by a certain number.

So, we know that we want the y intercept to be at 3. (Recall, the y intercept occurs when x=0) Right now, when we plug the x=0 into our equation, we end up with:

f(x)=(0)^3 - 6(0)^2 + 5(0) + 12

f(x)=12

Well, thats not right. We want it to be 3. So this is where we do our vertical stretch. We want 12 to be three, so we will have to multiply it by 0.25. !BUT! we need to make sure we do this to the entire equation.

So, our answer looks like:

f(x)=0.25[x^3 - 6x^2 + 5x + 12]

And we can expand it:

f(x)=0.25x^3 - 1.5x^2 + 1.25x + 3

And thats your answer. I dont know how well I explained, didnt use much mathimatical jargon. Hope it helps!

You haven't explained what you want solving, so that doesn't make much sense to me.

 

First one:

Compress:

2y + 3 = ____
3 = 2y
y = 2/3

Second:

3x - 2y - 2x = ______

Compress

x - 2y = _____
-2y = x
y = -x/2


If that's what you were looking for.
-I think you were solving for Y.

 

I'm not sure what he was looking for either, but if "____" was supposed to be equal to zero, I think you got it right...

but i think you might have messed up a teensy bit unbanned

3x - (2y + 2x) =??????

You can't have an equation which has an "=" sign and nothing on the right hand side. It has to be either 0 or something else.

Ratio of Canadian Dollars to Danish Kroner is 100:521.
Divide that by 100, you get the same ratio --> 1:5.21
Divide both sides by 5.21 gives you --> 1/5.21:1
This tells us you get 1/5.21 Canadian Dollars for 1 Danish Kroner.
So with 2605 Danish Kroner you get (1/5.21)*2605 Canadian Dollars.

2605*(1/5.21) = 500 Canadian Dollars exactly.

Why didn't I think of that from the start?

- I think I'll have to guess on the other ones, since the only information I get is:

Reduce:

3y + 2 - y + 1 = 3y+3 ?

3x - (2y + 2x) = No clue.

 

3y + 2 - y + 1 = (3y - y) + (2 + 1) = 2y + 3

3x - (2y + 2x) = 3x - 2y - 2x = (3x - 2x) - 2y = x - 2y

Remember, in algebra you can only add parts that are "like terms" -- for example;
if you had
3(x^2) + 2x + 3 - 2(x^2) - 5, you would add all of the x^2 components, then all the x components, than all the x^0 (1) components. So, you would get 5(x^2), 2x, and -2. So, your final outcome would be 5x^2 + 2x - 2. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.
