For those that played a private server

I suppose I had a moment of stupidity and accidentely used the same login information for a private server I played before Jagex announced the 2007 Old School Servers. Of course I quit the private server and anxiously awaited the 2007 servers which I have been playing a lot since release. I didn't even think about the fact that when Jagex 2007 servers come out, a lot of private servers might go down or change ownership, etc..............

Long story short, last night someone logged into my account, took 350k cash and another 100k in items and runes, and logged out. They didn't touch my stats or even try to change the pass to steal the account, just took the wealth and left. I'm 99% sure this was because I used the same log in and pass for a popular private server and this particular server went down the day the 2007 servers released.

"Hackers" or just clever people are getting log in information from much easier sources, private servers, and then trying it on the real game hoping to get lucky. I blame myself for being so stupid, but I figured I'd warn anyone else who may have used the same info, change it before you get cleaned.

 

Thanks for the information. Probably not a smart idea to use the same password anywhere, but this is good to know for others.

 

Yea major brain fart on my end, but I'm trying to see a silver lining and be glad they didn't wait 2 months and then hit me for mils.......
