FINALLY Passed my road test.

Needless to say, i failed my first time. Horrifically.

Anyway, I'm looking to purchase my first car soon (next month or so)
I live in NYC so something cheap, under $6000 is important.

I'm also 6'3 so something i can actually FIT into would be nice. I was looking at 2005-2007 Mazda 6's, saw a few Nissan Maxima's and Altima's, and of course the ol' reliable Honda Accord.

Any suggestions on what kind of car i should buy? Also, any suggestions on where to look? Craigslist is just FULL of scammers.

 

I have an 04 Mazda 6s, mean styling puts out enough power (266hp currently) so it's definitely a fun car for me. The 06-08 models are the styling is a little uglier than the earlier generation but more reliable. If you have any questions about the Mazda 6 I can definitely answer them. I'll post up some pictures of mine at some point if you want.

 

I'd love to see, how well do you fit in your mazda 6? Also, how much was it?

 

I failed 4 times and bribed the 5th, needless to say it wasn't fun.

Anyways, the most reliable possible car you can ever get with unbelievable mileage, excellent durability, and just a great car all around is a Toyota Camry. Any model you can afford is great. Yes, they don't look so nice but I guarantee you they run like beauties and any spare parts you need are super easy to replace.

Don't be that guy that drives and old Mazda because it just yells "I don't have enough money to buy a new nice car so I'm driving what used to be nice 10 years ago to make myself not feel inferior"

 

I just thought the Mazda 6 looked nice =[ as for the Toyota camry, there is NO WAY I'll buy one. I live in NYC, all of the taxi drivers drive camrys and I've heard far too many horror stories of people jumping into Camrys that aren't taxi's

 

How difficult do you think it would be to learn to drive and take a test in one day? Currently 20 and never bothered to get it, but my permit expires 2 days after I get home..

 

Extremely difficult unless you have a VERY dedicated teacher who will devote 10+ hours of teaching you.... You have to learn to parallel park which isnt a walk in the park for someone just learning honestly.

 

I drive a 10 year old mazda that has more power than any camry will ever have and better looks.. has 61k miles which is less than most 2010 camrys aswell.

I'm short so that's not really a good judgement call but most people fit in the car really comfortably.

Also on the topic of drivers tests. Didn't fail any or come close. Perfect on the actual driving test, 96% on the written.

Driving is soooo easy I bet I could teach you in less then 7 hours Parraell parking is also easy the hardest thing would be reverse left or right parking but even that isn't so hard and I don't think they ask you to do that in the test.

All you need to get used to is the accelerator the breaks and knowing how far left or right to turn the wheel when turning.

I think the number 1 thing that makes people think driving is hard is fear of crashing...

Driving test was a walk in the park for me -- although I'm not too familiar with big inner citys such as NY so I'm sure its much harder then rural areas. Also, PP and Corner Backing are the two things people have most trouble with but lucky for me they both came natural.

I failed my test twice when I got my license. My parents also didn't have a car to spare for me to use so I had to book driving school cars and whatnot. All in all I must have spent about $1000 getting my license, which sucked ass.

 

Lmao, I didn't even fail once and still paid over 2.000€ (about $2.100) for it Germany..

people generally buy older cars to either:

A) save money buying used

B) they think an older model of a car looks better than new

I don't think anyone has ever bought a 10 year old mazda to not feel "inferior", what in the shit does that even mean anyway?

buying new cars is so stupid anyway. buy it, drive it off the lot, and right there it loses 10% of it's value... you could buy like two years used and save thousands on any car.

 

Not sure how it is in OR, but on OH I didn't have to parallel park, just had to do a quick "drive" and then pass a "maneuverability test" that is similar to parallel parking, but in my opinion much easier.

The test itself is a joke, it's all common sense. I think you could glance over the rule book at the DMV and take the test after reading it over for a few minutes if you actually know how to drive.
