    Feeling down about having surgery

So basically i suffer with a chest condition and the only way i can get it fixed is by placing a long metal bar inside of me for 3 years, its extremely painful and has multiple complications and side effects.

I am always feeling light headed, fatigued and short of breathe i feel like its the only option for me to live again as i can't do sports and miss lots of social events any more due to this being such a big issue.

Just feeling a bit down.. knowing that i will have to go through this i feel kinda emotional and very scared wishing this wasn't the situation i'm faced with.

Hey anon, I can totally see as to how you'd be feeling down about the whole situation, it's never a good thought to have to go through something. But at the other end of the spectrum there is always a positive side to surgery. There are millions of people in the same boat as you. I can assure you're going to have your close family there to support you during this time of need. And if you ever feel like chatting about things that make you happy sling me a PM. What are some of your hobbies and interests?

    Take care.

If you'd like to talk to somebody, or ask any questions about the actual surgical procedure process, I'd be more than happy to fill you in. I am a surgical assistant, and I perform many surgeries everyday.

You will be fine now a days, bud. They can do most operations quick, easy and pain free. You'll be given drugs afterwards to manage the pain etc too.

They tell you all complications because they have to for insurance purposes.
They tell you there's a chance of death when you're getting a broken leg sorted... There is a chance of bad things happening but a very very small chance.

My mother has just had some operations on her chest due to cancer (it's all gone now) and we were told she could die etc. But she's alive and well now, besides having to take medication for a few years. She's not long come out of the surgery so we have to help her do things and she can't lift anything heavy. But that is to be expected. You will be exactly the same my friend. Just get in there and get it done and your life will be better in no time! :)

    Feeling down about having surgery

    Hey man,
I totally feel you about surgery. I have cancer and have undergone countless surgeries. The key factor in feeling better about it is just saying positive. Always try to think that there is always someone out there with a worse situation. It tends to help.

I will share with you a part of my more invasive surgery history.
tl;dr: My maxilla (upper jaw) died. They had to take it out, and they replaced it with my fiblua(lower leg bone(non-weight baring)).

So I can totally understand what you're going through... I know this is a horrible surgery and it is going to be painful, but the ends tend to justify the means in these situations.
Before I had the surgery that I described above, I couldn't eat or drink for 5 months. Could barely even talk. When I could "eat" if you can even call it that, it was purred food. Absolutely horrible.

Food is a major therapy that's overlooked in many peoples' lives. I would say that you should harness that ability to eat for the better. Enjoy good food as much as possible, it will help with your overall morale and help you to keep positive.

When I was in the hospital for over 8 months, honestly, It wasn't even always staying positive that got me through it. A lot of it was me being stubborn. The doctors kept telling me what I would NEVER be able to do again, I wasn't having it. 80% positivity and 20% defiance got me through it.

If you ever need someone to talk to about your situation, hit me up on skype or via PM.

    Jon
