I agree that you are a good mod yes, it's just the principle of the fact that if it was ANY other member, and they scammed this "$8" you speak of, they would most likely not get unbanned, let alone EVER have a chance of getting to be a mod or anything. Sythe bans people for spamming, but the real threat out there is all the scamming that is going on, and then they let the scammers right back in. Makes completely no sense. Just because someone speaks their mind and tells people off, that means they're untrustworthy and they are a threat to sythe? I think not. The mods need to worry more about the real threats than spamming.

Not really. There have been plenty of members who have been pardoned for scamming even more than $8, who haven't received the change to moderate. You can contribute to the site without having to be a moderator. If a user like Jack Goff made a pardon stating they've scammed $10, I would support it considering how much contributions he has made to the community. Also, scammers are our #1 priority, whilst we do temporarily ban spammers, we will always deal with scammers first. We would never unban someone we think is a threat to the site.

The mods I really ever see doing anything (not to single anyone out, just my own speculations.) is Video, Wulf, DJ, and that's pretty much it.

=/

I do agree that there is no reason to be a mod if you are just getting modlogs and doing it just to remain a mod.

Something I don't understand, basically everything is done or is done within a few hours. Syed, don't you remember once upon a time the RaSc and Disputes used to have a fair few pages worth? And reports could take 2-3 days to be completed? If the current staff are keeping up to date, why would it even matter if some weren't as active as they previously were? Even if they only reach the quota, they've done their job and letting someone who's more active replace a less active moderator wouldn't do much when there is now work.

He's talking about people who just hug the rank, not the amount of work.

People who would really work to improve the site should have the rank.

The whole "quota" system is bullshit anyway. Not only is it easy to abuse, it's not even a half decent indication of what's actually going on. But that's another story.

Here's where the real problems is. Modlog whores. People who sit down all day on the site and do everything. Gohan, you're probably one of the most culpable of all in this regard, so stfu. Here's how it happens.

Theoretically speaking:
Let's say the site needs 50,000 actions per month. Now, you have four dickheads who do about 10,000 actions each. That leaves 10,000 actions for the remaining 15 odd staff members. Now let's say 5 of these members do about 1500 actions each, it leaves about 2500 actions to be done by the remaining 10 members. Now, if you're a staff member logging on every day and you find nothing to do, over time you're going to feel useless. This isn't their fault though. Just because a select few staff members decide that they want to standout doesn't necessarily mean the rest of the team is bad, it just means you have a few heroes who are making the rest of the staff useless.

Now to put it into perspective, the site needs no more than 15,000-20,000 actions per month. Gohan once had over 10,000 logs in one month, (I'm sure most of it was useless whoring such as mass moving threads). If you're a staff member logging on every day and you find nothing to do, then how is it your fault?

Besides, the fuck is everyone bitching for, the RaSc sections is pretty much cleared, disputes are less than a page each, and I can't see RaSp but I'm sure it's cleared too. So what's the issue?

You need backroom staff. A lot of shit happens in SL, and the discussion that happens there is more important than any report. As old staff members, you should know that. Having too many active staff is a bad thing anyway.

In context of the thread this doesn't make any sense at all. Did you read the thread? It's not even about modlogs besides the fact Syed is saying that mods that just hang around and get minimum modlogs with minimum community interaction should go - or at least that is my opinion.

What happens in the SL that sectionals will spend ALL of their time in the SL? Sectionals are the face of Sythe, they're the point of contact when it comes to the staff. The globals and admins should be doing the 'Behind the Scenes' work. Isn't that their job anyway?

It's everyone's job.

That's what I'm at a few mods sit online 24/7 as I get on for maybe an hour a day. I personally believe Modscore is overrated since what if like ya said a few people getting alof while some of us can't get any.

I think what they're trying to get across is meeting the mod quota isn't all that staff should do and they need to be more active generally just posting around. At least, that's my opinion. Staff set an example to the newcomers, if they see mods posting in off-topic sections or what not, they'll be more inclined to do so themselves.

There definitely isn't enough material in the staff lounge to keep sectionals mostly occupied there. That's no argument at all since there is no way you can find enough material to spend more than about ten minutes a day there, 20 max if you respond to every thread. While the threads there should be a priority, most people who can afford to spend ten minutes in the staff lounge a day can afford to spend another 20 being active.

It's not really that I wanted to stand out, I just had nothing else better to do (unemployed and wasn't going to school). And there was plenty to do, spam reports, scam reports. I only had perms to the market you idiot, while there were others with access to RS2, Community, Offtopic and I only got on at night, so your point is pretty retarded. Btw logs meant nothing even though there were contests every other month for fun ranks which was bullshit.

And they've since changed the modlog system, so you have no idea what you're talking about.

Activity is checked through modlogs? Err what. Modlogs are so easy to fuck with: you can do a couple reports, delete some 3-year-old threads, Close all threads on page 145 of a market section, do some reports again and you're all good. I think a moderator that does reports regularly and spends time in the community is a better moderator than one that gets a bunch of modlogs then doesn't log in for 3 days, and when he does uses his status to beat opponents in the market.

It's everyone's job.

It's everyone's job as a team to reach the "X" amount of actions each and every month. Each member of the staff acts as a different body part that functions in the body. That's the portrait I've painted in my mind of the Sythe.org staff anyway. This thread wasn't meant to wage a mini Civil War over who handled more logs in the past than who. There's a ton of biases being flung back and forth across the thread on the ex-staff members' end of things. Last time I read the title of this thread it said "Feedback for inactive mods," not "Dispute whether inactive mods should be removed or not." Leave your feedback and move on, unless you're an admin you shouldn't be worried about who needs to be removed from staff. Also, I still don't understand how one ex-staff member can sit here and call the other one out. Shouldn't you guys have a mutual respect for one another seeing as how you worked with each other for a certain period of time like it or not? That was a rhetorical question so please save your comments as I'd like to refocus this thread on what it's purpose is. Lately I've noticed -Ryan handling most of my reports, but I haven't seen him around as much. Assuming he's busy doing his job to the best of his ability so.

If it takes at max 10 minutes then sectionals shouldn't be able to use 'Behind the scenes' to excuse the fact that they just do mod actions. I think that is the point of the entire thread. Staff (well sectionals) are more than just logs. They're the backbone of the community.

Without the users there would be no community so I'd have to say we aren't a backbone at all. We're more like white blood cells.

I'd just quickly like to point out that we have changed the mod log system considerably and removed potential avenues for abuse :)

You don't get mod score from locking/deleting threads. It's only from handling the reports (i.e. locking a thread in the report a scammer section - not locking threads in any other section).

I also wanna point out that it's not that easy to get modscore anymore. I'm just gonna also say, I don't think sectionals are the "backbone" I believe all of staff deserves the same credit. Given the higher up, prolly harder to approach but I have no problem talking to people. They think I'm gonna jump down their throat.
