Fashionscape 2007, Social aspects etc..

Hey guys. I've got lots of questions and such...

first of all, how was it, in 2007 people also used to be more social, I know this is OSRS but still, I remember pre-G.E people used to be MILLION times more social, i at least could go to varrock/lummy and always see some people there, now it's dead.. (AGAIN!?!) I miss the fashionscapes (edaters.) dancing around, or people chilling in varrock. I also miss how pre-GE had general stores being used, and when did clan wars die? was it never popular?

So how is the current social aspect? I've only noticed one good thing that still lives and that is people doing quests and training together and lastly drop parties.
(NOTE; this is F2P I'm talking about above. I'm not sure how the P2P is currently, so if you can tell me how that is it'd be nice.) I see many worlds with 1k + online but always p2p.

Why did OSRS get so much... lonely after G.E? I actually remember people doing more things after G.E Now it feels... empty elsewere.

How is it in P2P 2007, lots of fashionscapers? I remember there used to be F2P fashionscapers also but meh, all gone..

 

Trading is a huge aspect of the game. When you eliminate the need to socialize in trading and implement a non-verbal middleman system, it rids of a lot of socialization. You'll still easily make friends PKing, skilling, etc. You just need to be actively talking

Times change bro, the 12 year old kids who once needed their parents credit cards to get membership are now 18-20 year old working adults that pay for their own membership. Majority of F2p is comprised of bots & a couple of players who just started the game, while P2p is filled with the more serious players of the game.

I really didn't see the link between trading & socializing. I mean back when the GE wasn't there and there was only Zybez to use, I rarely went into conversation with the person I was trading with after I got my item/sold my item.

I believe he means in the sense like when people used to sell rares behind varrock West Bank and rune/amour east side of the bank. When people were haggling and talking in general. That's my opinion doe.

As far as the actual social aspect, it's definitely gone down but that's mainly because the average age of the playerbase has gone up. People have less free time to play the game, so there's a lot more emphasis on not "xp wasting" and doing things efficiently. Once in a while you do see some people doing things just for fun which is refreshing, but hard to come by. What I miss the most though is playing castle wars, hardly anybody plays it anymore

Dude, I agree with your last statement 1000 fold. Castle wars was the shit back in 2007/2008. Cwars worlds full and always a match getting set up. People chatting in the zammy/sara waiting rooms talking about their plans. I believe C-wars doesn't have enough reward to make up for the time played, therefore it got old as soon as we got old

Exactly.. this is what i was talking about, I mean, i remember in 2013-2014 OSRS ... people did use the Duel Arena, and I remember how you could always find someone hanging around Varrock or Lummy pre-G.E. It saddens me.
Only things left are just people training, questing and well, those are the only things that haven't changed, I've made friends unbelievably.. but you could make friends in so many other ways.

I still do see some people who bring me back, but only with those limited things.
I remember drop parties(still some but extremely rare.) general store standing, fashionscaping, edating, bank-standing/selling, cow-field chat, lines of people doing things together, rares, high levels hanging around.. + million things.
And many of them were around in OSRS Too! even 1-2 years ago . :c

and I do understand things changed but in 2 years OSRS has changed so much, too much. I also get the thing about people getting mature but still, always will be someone older who is into those things.

and what I mean by Fashionscape '07 is how there are always some people only trying to look here, haha. How is it in p2p? lots of female characters?
Fashionscape 2008,2009,2010,2011 was alll about female characters in lumbridge or behind the house near varrock. Miss those times, always some edaters/fashionscapers there.
even in 2007 there were f2p fashionscapers but where are they now?

So yah, that's what I mean.

Only social things left that haven't passed on are levelers & questers. Nothing more then that.

PK and high-level training is the only popular things of sooo many now-dead things. :c

I mean what happened with Dual Arena and Clan wars? :c

In my opinion I feel like there are 2 main reasons that Runescape is how it is nowadays and different from back in the day.

1. Back in the day there was way more noobs because we all was so young.

2. Nowadays people are consumed with efficiency and 'no xp-waste'

Now im not saying this is every single rs player out there. but to me this is the vast majority of players and the underlying reasons to why things are so different.

And for the fashionscape part; Fashionscape is still a very big thing. People love their outfits but at the same time I still have yet to see a crowd of people hanging out doing nothing in their outfits joking around. Most of the time people just use their fashionscape outfits for skilling in my opinion anyways.

People now are much more focused and have lots more knowledge about the game, because they player base is not growing as quickly. (... or at all lol)

What I think you are missing (OP) is "the noobs" (the new players whom first discovered RS in 2001-2008) and the people who used Runescape to hangout rather than train or play. These players don't exist anymore in the current playerbase, and no one new is coming to the OSRS because Jagex isn't really actively promoting it.

In contemporary OSRS, the noobs of 2001-2008 now make up the entire playerbase, except they are no longer new to the game. They are experienced and are out to gain exp / train their accounts. There are no aspects of the game left for them to discover, because they know it all already like the back of their hand. There are so very little truly "new" players coming to OSRS today that none of the players whom you are talking about really exist anymore in the current playerbase.

The current OSRS playerbase constituency is almost entirely made up of experienced players whom have played the game for many years and are concerned with honing their skills rather than having fun and discovering the game.
There is simply nothing left of the game for them to discover.

Obviously I am quite partisan, but I think that Jagex needs to just stop promoting RS3 and make OSRS their primary focus (this will never happen though).
Then perhaps the playerbase would actually grow, and new people would once again find and discover the game - and the community of times long past which I believe you are reminiscing of would be created once again.

But this will never happen so as long as Jagex continues to make the "main game" their primary focus. New MMORPG players who are looking for a game will invariably be drawn to the main game (RS3), as Jagex simply presents it in a more impressive and pertinent light.
