F2P in oldschool

In response to all of these posts (and many others that I have seen touting f2p for 07 as being the greatest move ever)

If they just slowly build it up so it eventually turns pre eoc it would be pretty good. Who knows what will happen via some major game updates like dung and summoning though. Also if they made it f2p and changed 10 or so worlds over to f2p it would allow new players to rs3 to come over to old school and give it ago, resulting in boosting the numbers up even more.

07 Scape would be more populated than RS 3 if it was available to F2pers..

I agree 100%. I believe this is also a reason why Jagex will not allow f2p on oldschool runescape.

This is good cuz I love 07 I really hope jagex add f2p to 07 it will definitely make the population increase by a lot. The current updates they have been putting into the game have been good in my opinion and I hop they continue

F2p is a nonexistent community. The numbers don't lie, less than 10% of the total amount of online players are F2P. The F2p game exists solely so people can log into their accounts without having to buy membership. Anyone who is a serious, consistent player will cough up the ~$5 a month to buy bonds and play the full version of the game. Look at the F2p-only worlds in 07 anyway- they are completely deserted. The only thing that f2p 07 worlds would do is allow people to mercilessly bot it.

I was always a f2p in rs since 2004. I even had a f2p clan.
times have changed...and alot sadly. The f2p numbers now have nothing to do to f2p'ers that runescape had in 2007, etc.
for example if f2p comesback, i will stop my subscription for sure. I pretty much enjoyed the game without the p2p content.
Also f2p had lots of pkers (now you see none because of the awsome eoc shit update)

F2P is basically a launching platform, and that is why Old School RuneScape would potentially reap huge benefits from implementing it.

Think of Old School like a country with a growth rate - its population will grow when births (sign-ups) outweigh deaths (quits) and fall when deaths outweigh births. The problem that P2P-only Old School has now is that many new players won't want to start an old game for $8/month or whatever they'll be paying in bonds/cards/etc. The number of births is negligible, so the growth rate has nowhere to go but down as a result. Implementing F2P would be a great business decision because new players could try the game any time they like, and many of those new players would eventually become paying members (like the vast majority of RS members in the game's history, myself included).

I'm going to have to dismiss what you said as a bit ignorant. Those worlds are only open for F2P-style PK'ing and nothing else, and besides, they're still only available to members. Obviously members aren't going to be the ones using F2P; they're already paying for more content, so they're going to use that.

You're so wrong, F2P in 07 was a huge part of the game.

EOC and RS3 makes it so you're now FORCED to get membership as they've shifted the game into such a direction.

f2p on 07 would give players that have possibly quit rs3 a chance to try out oldschool runescape. Back when you first joined runescape, I'm pretty sure you didn't buy membership before you finished tutorial island right? We've all done that and possibly played a few months, learned about the benefits, then bought membership. Same goes with oldschool runescape, there needs to be a so called "trial period" in which people get to try out the game for free before they'd want to purchase membership. Thats just my take on it.

People don't want to play F2P Runescape 3. You can't just extrapolate that and expect it to work with 07. Who knows how many people would play Rs 07 f2p. At the very least it would add some players, which basically means it could potentially take away even more members of RS 3 from the already depleting rapidly player base.

Also, the fact that the player count is even close (an up to date game versus a version of the game six years old)...is embarrassing.

The only logical reason for anyone to want F2p on 07 is if they wanted to bot farm the living shit out of it at no monetary risk, which, I would have expected as a response in the cheating forum, not in the 07 forum.

Alright, now I see what you're saying. I think though there are a good bit of people that are waiting in the wings for an announcement for F2p 07 scape. This might let people come to the game and build up some skills without having to pay a dime. I know my brother falls into this category. And hey, if I know one person waiting for it..maybe there are others.

f2p 07 would bring in so many more clans, little pures into the game not to mention players. Look how many f2p rs3 players there are, i can near guarantee you 80% will jump on 07 to have a look and im pretty sure most of those numbers will stay on the 07 servers.

Yes but were not taking into account the amount of people that already quit runescape 3 and are not willing to pay for membership on oldschool runescape because they are not sure if it will be worth it. Allowing f2p on osrs would allow for this "trial period" which I explained in my post above

Also to those that say people don't play RS3 in F2P.. there are full on clans with nothing but "pure f2p'ers" I know a couple myself.

Some people play F2P only. They either enjoy it more, can't pay for P2P or both. Don't be so quick to assume that because you don't do it that others don't.

I'd love to see it come around, as it will diffidently bring in new players.

Exactly, I feel like there are a ton of people waiting. Not everyone has the real life cash or in-game cash for Bonds. It may seem like nothing to us, may seem like everything to others though.

If F2P was implemented I would create a new account, get membership and make it a F2P-based pure.

I'm sure others would take my route as well. F2P pking was GOLDEN - pure, simplistic fun.

I was f2p for about 18 months before I decided to subscribe... Some of my other f2p friends had been f2p their whole life, and had several 99s (unbotted).
What you stipulate may be the way of current eoc main-game, but the fact of the matter is that it wasn't ALWAYS like this. Your '90-10' breakup of members to f2p (strictly legit players) was not always the case.. EOC changed everything buddy.
