I'm all for it. Only if the one being euthanized agrees with it. If they want to kill themselves, fuck me if I say no.

Definitely For. Personally, if I was in a painful, diseased state, or even in a hopeless situation where there seemed no end to my suffering, I'd definitely choose death over living

It's their life and it's their choice.

That's all there should be to the debate. No one but the individual should have the right to make the decision because the individual is the one that has to live (or not) with the consequences of that decision. Everyone's motivations are different, you can't know what's best for someone else even if you think you do. Just because you believe life is superior to death, doesn't mean it is for everybody. So if people want to die, they should be allowed to die.

Should be legal .. If it's not and by the time I get stuck with chronic disease I'll neck up before withering away to my death.. To much pride to be a burden and a sorrow case infront of the family.

Im a sparky and had to work at a nursing home for 2 weeks, just seeing some of the old people there waiting to die was a horrable experience and i can also remember visiting my great grandma when i was heaps younger and even then i said to myself if i end up like that i would rather die.

Sorry dude, I thought you meant with dogs or something. I must have been high and overlooked the statement about humans. As far as euthanizing humans go I believe it should be up to the individual. If someone would sincerely rather die than continue living, who are we as humans to say that's wrong? Take Jack Kevorkian for instance.

It depends on the utter consent of the person who would need it.

    For.

If someone is in so much pain, whether it be physical or mental, they should be able to request death with no consequences to the person assisting them (as long as it is in a semi-humane way). If they are to die it should be quick and as painless as possible.

    100% for.

Personally, If I were in a vegetative state and my daily functions were gone, I wouldn't want to go on. I'd have no purpose. Plus I'd feel like a serious burden on my loved ones.

If you can't end your life at any point, it isn't truly yours.

"...He told me 25 years ago that he would feel real trapped if he didn't know that he could commit suicide at any moment." This is a quote from Ralph Steadman, close friend of the late Hunter S. Thompson.

You can't really be against it or for it until you actually have to make the decision. You might be all for it now but that's subject to change when you have to make the decision for someone thats close to you.

The thing that hasn't been posted yet is that there are actually different types of euthanasia.

"Passive euthanasia" is usually defined as withdrawing medical treatment with the deliberate intention of causing the patient's death.

"Active euthanasia" is taking specific steps to cause the patient's death, such as injecting the patient with poison.

Voluntary euthanasia" is when the patient requests that action be taken to end his life, or that life-saving treatment be stopped, with full knowledge that this will lead to his death.

"Involuntary euthanasia" is when a patient's life is ended without the patient's knowledge and consent.

Basically what everyone has agreed to here is voluntary euthanasia. The main reason is is hard to pass a law making it legal is involuntary euthanasia, at what point can you make this decision for someone?

And also how should they die? There have been people who were prescribed an overdose, but after 60 hours of being in a comma they had awoken. There were also people who had something removed or treatment stopped, but it took over a week for them to die.

I'll talk about "Involuntary euthanasia" this happens all the time, it's called 'power of attorney' and it is legal.

I am no medical expert, but the most common way is hooking them up with a morphine drip and upping the dose till they pass out and die. If your referring to this then aside from the argument that it is extremely rare, they're are most certainly other ways to euthanize someone.
You can mix certain drugs together commonly used as anesthetics and just raise the mixture level and you get a lethal injection that is painless.
Regardless, the fact that such measures need to be taken indicate that the patient does not want to live and wants to be put out of their misery.

It is like an operation, you go in and the doctor says you have a 99% chance of success but a 1% chance of failure. You go ahead with that surgery regardless of that 1% chance because you not only need the surgery, but you want it. Same with euthanasia Their may be an exceptionally small amount of people that don't die instantly, but they want to be put out of their misery and the tiny chance of 1 week with misery, compared to the rest of their life with misery how about we let them or their respective representative choose for them.

I'm for as well as assisted suicide although the second should be a long process where the one who wants to do it talks to multiple doctors and others for help and psychiatric help before a decision is met.

As for euthanasia, its a tough subject especially when the decision is made by someone else (which in many cases it could/would be). I am still for however.

totally for it. it's my life... if im fully paralysed or is suffering badly from an incurable disease and wont die anytime soon, i would rather die right away and take the burden away from me and my family.
