So first off let us clarify - you don't want to body build (gain muscle) but you want to gain 30lbs of mass. Are you meaning you want to gain 30lbs of fat lol

No what I meant to convey is that I don't want body build like fucking crazy like some of these guys do. I my goal, being 6' even, is to weigh 190, build muscle, be fit, but not be crazy ass ripped. Does that make sense?

That'll still be like 1-2 yrs and your goals/desires may change after that

I'd personally advise more weight training and to start off with a dedicated programme so you're hitting all your body parts. Personally not a fan of the upper/lower split since that's a lot of things to be fitting into upper (shoulders, chest, bis, tris, abs, back) but each to their own. You could make gains hitting each body part once a week, twice seems to be optimal for most people though.

As for the protein, depending on your diet twice a day might be excessive unless you aren't getting shit. Protein is in everything, not just meat so who knows - you might just be pissing out most of it. Anyways protein synthesis supposedly lasts 3 days so as long as you've worked out within 3 days of taking a scoop then it should still being used on those muscles that have been worn down.

I figure upper/lower split isn't the most effective but without much knowledge to come up with an alternative, I was going to trial and error and see how I feel about it. How do you go about hitting every body part within a week? Do you just divvy them up evenly across your workout days and work on them in random order? Top to bottom? Front to back?

My diet up until last week has been shitty, but I've started a program that I guess doesn't focus on any technique in particular that I know of, it's just healthy eating. Moderating fats and processed ingredients, cutting out added sugars and eating fruits instead, grilled chicken chicken and rice for lunch at work, a lot of green tea for hydration and digestion cleansing, etc.

Personally I do a modified version of push, pull, legs (PPL) which basically is like day 1: Push exercises (chest, shoulders, tris), day 2: Pull exercises (back & bis), day 3: legs (this one ain't need explaining) where you just add some ab workout stuff on the less busy days (day 2 and/or 3 are best for this). This isn't quite all within a week as after the 3 days there's a rest day so it's a 4 day split which ends up being 8 days, but it works for me and is quite popular.

Man I'm far from serious with my diet, I just had burger king for lunch. I mean just try and eat somewhat healthy but in larger volume. Protein really is the key for it, if there were any macronutrients you'd want to track it would be that and your overall caloric intake since everything else will just fall into place normally. The whole key to gaining weight anyways is the slight caloric surplus (you can only gain if you're consuming more than your maintenance level but only slightly over to minimize fat gain) and then progressive overload with your training.

Watch this for motivation;

Fat, Sick & Nearly dying

Proceed to juice for 2 weeks

Step 2 Watch cowpiracy for more motivation

Attempt to cut out milk, egg and less or all meat from your diet
Veggies have more protein anyway.
And you'll have no body oder and your skin will smell nicer

Step 3 Gain toned body, soft and smooth skin, softer hair, no pimples

Step 4, go to a doctor, ask for everything to be checked, check your vitamins and supplement a mutli vitamin

Sit back, relax and gain.

You'll find that you'll have a lot more energy.. You'll want to do more things, which will lead to being more productive.

Can confirm works.

good deal, I'll try your PPL method and see how it does. I had midterms tonight so I didn't get to the gym but I'm going to start this method tomorrow and I'll let you know if a few weeks if there's any results, small or not.

Maybe I'll keep a running log going. It'll help with motivation I think

Im 6'2 at 185, and i work out regularly about 3-4 times a week.

All i did was buy more protein snacks such as granola and eat that instead of chips. But i had to eat a lot more on a regular basis to actually gain some weight. Just try adding more food and (healthy) snacks each day and eventually you'll get bigger.
