Mandatory thread tagging

I think it should be mandatory to apply tags to new threads.

If you don't know which tags I'm talking about:



This will improve indexing and will make relevant threads WAY more accessible. It's only beneficial to the site in the long-run, has very little overhead, and will help users bring activity to their threads.

 

along with a dozen other things we should make mandatory. PMs before trades, agreeing on liability, spelled out contracts. Nice meme

Implementing my suggestion takes 10 minutes, tops. How do you implement mandatory PMs before trades aside from making it a dinky rule nobody will follow?

I don't know Xenforo but I doubt there isn't something trivial like a checkmark to make tags mandatory. There's literally no reason not to do it.

This should definetly be made a sticky in the Vader section, that way if your gonna report a Vader, it's easier to see if that persons already been reported or not. E.g. "Sneaky Fish5 ban evading report" so when we search for it, we just type in the persons username and then "ban evading report" or whatever we choose to make it.

this is what google is for, just type in "sneaky fish5 sythe scammer" and 99% of the time all relevant threads will appear.

ot - i don't see how this is helpful. if i want to sell an account - in the appropriate subsection that is designed to help people find the markets they want to participate in - what am i going to tag it as? "selling" "rs" "account"?

 

Most tags applied to threads are irrelevant to the thread topic due to the system not being taken seriously. Should keep it optional as it's use would be marginalized because it's toyed with, e.g., your own tag.

 

Further, simple, categorization. A ton of other forums have it implemented and it works great (namely warez/piracy forums), despite their section layout being already fairly specific. It improves searches across the board. What if someone is specifically looking for a level 50, doesn't care if it's a pure or whatever? Search the "level50" tag. Wants a pure, but doesn't matter the level? Search the "pure" tag. It can only improve the user experience so why the resistance? Can't be bothered to put in a simple tag to get more users to your thread?

People are capable of filtering through the filth. The *exact* same thing can be said for regular searches. If I do a content search for "runescape", I'll end up with shit across the forums. A search for a "runescape" tag has a far better chance of returning results specific to my interests. Again, like I mentioned in Super's reply, this is a simple feature that can only improve the user experience so I don't understand what the resistance is all about.

 

fair enough. as long as it's up to users to determine their tags i think this is a reasonable qol suggestion

 

@Blupig would you still like to keep this open for now or do you think automatic tagging as suggested by im solo would be a better idea?

 

They're essentially the same suggestion so as long as this thread is linked in his OP I don't think this needs to stay open tbh
