At one point in time, Solicitation within RuneScape was quite prominent. Though against the rules today, many players still seemingly form distance relationships through with players they meet within Gielinor -- Disregarding these rules. Jagex has seemingly turned a blind eye to this over the years with the exceptions of "Buying GF 1M".

Back when I was broke I became a daughter in the kings castle to some dragon dude for like 2m. Good times.

 

I found it so funny to see low level female chars dancing with lvl 100s .. and it was always like that. :'D

either a guy or a girl with no life or who doesn't know what RS is about, it's not about having hoe-ish outfit and talking>_>

but lol once, there was a female char with some really "sexy" member outfit, in a f2p WORLD OFC. I called HIM a Hoe, and it instantly went from being normal & feminine to being all out GANGSTA... "mothafucka bitch" bla bla ... followed me shouting gangster words hahaha, and in another case they followed me around throwing constant "hurting" smart words & sentances they thought would break me down or ya know, cyber-bullying at it's finest
both female chars, on a f2p world, wearing members only clothing...

b) I think its stupid. I saw what 2332 is saying...like guy/girl char following each other but didn't think they were just rs gf/bfs. I think its pretty sad if thats what people have to lol

 

I've made pretty close friends with people I've met on RS, then later dated in a better fashion.

I don't see a problem with it, you're still a person behind the screen so I don't see how people think it's bad. It's basically long distance, but you also play a game with them. (Of course, I'm talking about the actual relationships--not the "buying rs gf" type shit.)

I wouldn't say I'd do it again though.

First off, the solicitation rule applies to things such as "Buying gf". It has nothing to do with real relationships. If it was, could you be reported for talking to your husband/wife online? I think not.

I have been in a online relationship through RS and I don't regret it as I've learnt a lot from it. I'm talking about a serious long distance and fairly long lasting relationship.

I find the concept has a lot of social stigma around it that is probably misplaced. The reality is that if you seriously commit to the relationship, nobody will care in a few years where you met your partner. If it's a non-serious relationship online then whatever, that's where the stigma comes from.

Yes a relationship which isn't long distance is definitely better, but the relationship I had was rather unique that I could both play a game I enjoy and spend time with someone I cared for. The whole situation required lots of openness and communication, along with a lot of trust that was built over time. There was never the issue of my friends feeling left out etc and in general they didn't mind about it - They found it unusual and asked questions but they were always supportive of my decisions.

I never told my parents as I planned to wait until I had moved out and was financially stable. They did have suspicions as they knew I talked to one person a lot for months on end and were clearly against the concept of long distance, but they did show interest in knowing a bit about the person, even if it was just trying to be polite.

So there's my story. So long as the relationship doesn't make you less sociable with other players, talk about private topics in public or turn you into an asshole (I've seen that happen plenty of times) it's fine IMO. Pretty much if you hate a certain couple's actions online they're not really any different to the annoying couple IRL.

 

I have a friend who within the last few years got married to a chick he met on rs.

 

Used to think it was hilarious when fake ass "e-thots" would try to follow me once they saw a silver crown. They are all guys, I knew about three legitimate girls and they were all pmods because only girls can actually play the game how its meant to be played imo.

But if someone was to talk to someone online through a game and eventually decided they wanted to have a rl relationship that's their choice. It's a game not a dating site, that's why it doesn't happen often.
