[Drink] Monster - Mutant Soda Review (Coke's response to Mtn Dew)

Here I go again, buying into hype when I shouldn't. They also have a clone of Kickstart called Hydro.

Price Paid: $1.99 at 7/11



You can only buy this at convenience stores. Which means you are GOING to get ripped off even more.

Well, here I am getting my free coffee to giveaway of the day when I finally see the soda I was looking for the past 24 hours. I knew this would be a regretful purchase for the pricepoint, but I went with it anyways.

Yeah, no Monster touch to this. It smells like Vault or Surge, so like a better version of Mtn Dew, but it tastes pretty much exactly like Mtn Dew, and not like Vault or Surge (which are amazing-er).

Whatever rating without the price: 5/5 tastes like Dew and Dew is a 5/5

Including the price, High 3/5. $2 for that little bottle? No way. Hydro supposedly costs even more for less drank.

Would not buy this again, but might get the Code Red knockoff because I'm insane.

Tastes a bit juicy, even though orange juice is the only juice in the ingredients (I think the normal Mutant had that too). I don't think it is comparable to Code Red. I am getting a pretty good fruit punch flavor out of this one.

4/5, but still wouldn't buy.

How big was the bottle? 500mL? The same size bottle of basically anything costs me $2.55, what's the price for a coke of the same size in the states? A 2L of no-name store brand shit costs me like $0.99, a 2L of something costs the same as its 500mL bottle. I guess you pay for convenience cause otherwise that makes no fucking sense.

Yeah over here you can usually get soda for $1 for a 2L to $1.25.

Yeah pretty much the 20 fl ounces (around 600 mL) bottles are always more expensive than the 2L bottles, which are usually $1 to $1.25 sometimes $1.50. The 20 fluid ounces are RARELY $1, but they're usually $1.50 or so and again due to convenience and refrigeration. Soda has a high profit margin at even the 2L pricepoint. The point is, I really don't think this is worth the price, when I could get a 2L of Mtn Dew which would basically taste the same.

 

Is that a normal sized soda bottle? Cause like said above that's how much all (big name) sodas are that size for me. Everything is more expensive at a convenient store, you pay for the convenience.

Yeah, 20 ounces / 600 mL approx. I don't like to pay that price, but 1.99 is priced particularly high. I can get a can of monster for that price, and get something much more delicious. Like yeah I'm complaining about 50 cents, but I guess I'm just not the target audience of this product as a soda reviewer and not a drinker. I just had about 8 sodas this past week and I'm sick of it.

 

Man that labelling looks like some shit a 9th grader would make in an intro photoshop class. Wtf, especially weird cause monster usually has really nice designs for their products
