Don't have admin password

I received a laptop from a family friend. The only account pass word he remembers is to a limited user. I need some way of getting the administrator password. I do not have the windows xp cd. I can download, but cannot install. I can't access much.(can't even access clock) Could someone help?



Also, not really a problem but before on my old desktop, I had download speeds of 500kb+ per second. Now on this laptop I get 60kb. I am using the exact same internet set up. Any help?

Reformat. Your only option.

Would the safe mode way not work?
Try starting windows in safe mode, and creating a new account as an administrator, and the log on normally on the administrator account and delete the other administrator account.

And if someone did give you the laptop, it's always best to reformat.

Download this, burn the iso to a disk, and boot from it. Then use the password reset utility to select the administrator account, and you can set a new password for the account.

I went through same problem, cept it was 10x harder, i was running Vista with UAC's activiated....took awhile

um try pressing f4 for safe mode. Then change the password
