    Jobs around basketball.

I pretty much have no work ethic in school but I'm getting it done with good grades as well. (A, B, B)

Only thing I have a strong work ethic towards is basketball, so I figured jobs around basketball would be good.

What could I do to get into this department, like a coach, ref, trainer, etc.

Anyone have any experience/tips on this?

I think something you should try to focus on if you're looking for a career in the field, especially if you're looking to "make it big" is to take classes on bones and structure. Becoming a trainer/fitness adviser related to the NBA could be a great career for you. Try to see if the school you go to offers classes in Athletic related medicine/medical work related to athletics.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe the person who wraps their ankle up before the game and all that eventually. Thanks though.

I always think big for myself.

No I'm thinking you should study physical fitness, don't set your goals for someone who wraps people's ankles. Become a trainer, become educated about how the body works and how physical fitness works. You need to learn the basics first and if you're sure you'd like a career in the area, then either become an insanely good basketball player(a bit of sarcasm intended) or study physical fitness, become a trainer, and work your way up.

Yeah, I was just naming a thing, not exactly what I wanted to do. Just was saying it so people get the point in where I'm trying to go. I do consider myself a really good basketball player, but no where near NBA potential. As of right now I'm doing basic classes in college, but I'll shift more towards that way after my first semester and all that.

I spoke to my cousin who had taken the class I was referring to, the class name is "sports medicine." Try to see if your college offers any basic classes in the field or anything related to it.

Take subjects in College that can lead on into the sports realm. Also, network as much as you can with basketball figures. The age old cliche is "It's not what you know, it's who you know"... this is true to an extent, but networking is always useful. A career in basketball would be hella fun, go hard.

Do you like playing basketball more than the idea of assisting, coaching, or training basketball players? If playing in the NBA really is your dream, you should stick with it, no matter how difficult it is for athletes to make it.

    Three words: Practice practice practice.
If you want to be very good at something, you have to practice a lot, around 10,000 hours. Hope this helps! :)

I've met some magic players and won a couple tournaments winning their gear back in the day, I also know and am kinda a good friend with one of the guys who works at their practice courts. I used to play against him in a travel league back in the day. I've also had dinner with a retired Orlando Magic player. So I'll see what I can do.

I do enjoy playing basketball but I'm smart. I have high standards and goals for myself but I'm also the realistic type. I'm 5'8" and white. Doesn't cut it in the game today.

Wouldn't want to be anything related to a teacher or in that department/pay rate of a teacher.
