    Does anyone use ASP.NET?

Ive just downloaded the ASP.NET pack. I'm new to web design but it seems really good so far, especially considering it's free. Has anyone got any tips and experience with it for building websites?

I'd say start with PHP because it's more widely used but still also free.

I would agree with null, asp has its advantages though.

As far as im aware to run asp you either need a window based server or an asp-apache addon to run on linux whereas php will run on almost any server.

I would say it depends on your plans, if you want to make websites for yourself to gain and SEO portfolio then definitely use php, if you want to make websites for others you will need to learn both to offer the services your customers are going to want. That being said if your completely new to programming I think you'll find asp.net easier to code to begin with.

As to your actual questions about tips, use google its your friend^^

I'm curious as to why you feel this way.

From where I stand PHP has far more tutorials/help sites than ASP.

Also, PHP's official documentation is phenomenal in my opinion. I can't even see the official ASP.Net documentation by doing a Google search, is there even such a thing?

Well I shouldn't of put it quite like that. From my experience I found it easier. The consensus of this topic should be to use php though.

I'm quite set on asp I should add as my dad works in It and this is the software his compant use so I can get a lot of help from him. I'm just trying to do as much as possible without him.
