I dont belive intellect has anything to do with having a belief.
I welcome religion it has done alot of good in the world and yes alot of bad aswell. I however is an atheist. but i dont look down on does who say they belive. But to be honest i dont go around telling everybody am an atheist not a word you want to be throwing around in today's society.

I'm a theist and at first I looked down to atheists and other religions. Now, I realized I have no right to look down upon them. We are all human and everyone should be looked at equally no matter what your beliefs are.

Yes it does. Would any person with decent intellectual ability believe that a nappy was his mother?

Reductio ad absurdum.

I do. Most religions are ignorant; they believe many things without any basis.

Intellect is related to religion, without it your completely mindless following people praising a magical presence in the sky.

Reductio ad absurdum.

Not true. Unless you're implying that it is to the extremes in which a person may be mentally impaired, which IS definitely a form of intellectual deficiency - and MAY WELL believe certain objects to behave in certain fashions.
Are mentally disabled people really that uncommon and 'absurd' to have logical weighting?

Yes, true. You took the word "belief" out of its context (which was pertaining to the belief of an omnipotent deity), and stretched it out to some absurd statement.

False. My comment was in response to the way the word 'belief' was used in a universal context. Read the original post again...
Again, the statement is not absurd. You haven't answered my argument to this.

Since this thread is about an omnipotent deity, belief is implied to mean belief in an omnipotent deity. You can't stretch its original context to make a point.

Edit: There's a difference between intellectual deficiency, and someone with a mind-altering mental illness. You seem to think just because you're lagging in intellectuality, you can't tell the difference between two polar-opposite items. That is, in layman's terms, absurd. Thus, you committed reductio ad absurdum.

... You discuss context when you are completely ignorant of the context in which i make that statement.

It is NOT absurd to draw universal implications from this comment.
And FYI, intellectual deficiency and mental illness are NOT polar-opposing themes.
Honestly, does your argument even have a basis?
For a first, you ignore context while claiming I have ignored context.
Secondly, you draw a defined contrast between intellectual deficiency and mental illness. Any person with some knowledge of psychological functions would understand that a severe deficiency in intellect MAY BE classed as having a mental illness. Get it right, honestly.
And also, how is 'think just because you're lagging in intellectuality, you can't tell the difference between two polar-opposite items.' even absurd? At best (even IF that was the point i was making), it would be simply regarded as a indirect assumption. How on EARTH does that become reductio ad absurdum?

OK:

- I never said mental illnesses and intellectuality are polar-opposite themes.
- I understand your context. You took belief in that post as a universal item (belief in God, belief in the difference between items etc,.).

I will have a go at this again because you completely misinterpreted my argument. In note form:

- Just because someone is intellectuality deficient does NOT make him/her incapable of noticing the difference between something as day-and-night as a nappy and their Mom. Unless, they have a PROFOUND deficiency which we weren't arguing over. To say otherwise is absurd.
- Belief means, in this thread, "Belief of an omnipotent being." Just because Bonedust didn't declare his context with belief, YOU do NOT get to assume it's universal!

There! Now treating me as if I'm retarded, and respond to those very easy points in my argument.

Even then, let's say for the hell of it that you DIDN'T commit reductio ad absurdum, you're still wrong. Belief is not grounded with intellectuality/logic. Belief is irrational. Since it's irrational, it CAN NOT be grounded by intellectuality or logic.

Something that is irrational IS illogical; at least in the sense that a person may take it as belief. Believing in the irrational IS not something that can be regarded as of having higher intellect. The ability to make rational decisions and interpret situations based on logic and rationality is what makes humans intellectually superior to other living organisms on this planet. Would you argue that point?

OK, either I have poor wording, or you have comprehension issues. So, for the last time I'm posting on this subject, as between A and B you're misinterpreting my point:

I agree with your point COMPLETELY. So much so, it was what I said/meant to say.

Back to your original point:

"Intellect has to do with belief," (paraphrasing, obviously) yet in this argument you claim it's not intellectually sound to make decisions about irrational/illogical ideas. Therefore, believing, in any context, does not contain intellect. Unless, of course you want to use examples of believing in the Big Bang Theory (or other scientific theories), in which they use empirical evidence to found their beliefs.

It depends on the religion and the follower, for example i am intellectually condescending to females who claim to be Christians and say that they respectively impute the morals and beliefs that they claim to hold so strongly, which is a sign of extreme idiocy and contradiction, as the bible is sexist to all women. Here is an example of this sexism from the bible, 1 Timothy chapter 2:

"Also that women should adorn themselves modestly and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire but by good deeds, as befits women who profess religion. Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent."

This is my opinion on women who claim to be devout Christians, and i condone them very much.

On the other hand, any theist who does not push their beliefs on other men/women cannot in my opinion be classed as unintelligent unless you know them personally on a decisive level.

I myself am not a theist, but respectively there are many theists that surpass my level of intelligence, as there are many atheists that surpass the level of intelligence that certain theist has, and vice versa.

Apart from my opinion on Christian women, i believe it is very difficult to judge one's intellect from their religion in a general viewpoint.

eh, sometimes.
Bondage of the mind isn't an easy thing to break, so for those born into religious households I show more sympathy towards.
As for those who have stumbled upon theism later in their lives, I believe they let their emotional response toward said religion supersede their intellectual honesty. In all truthfulness it is hard to not be condescending to such people.

I don't look down on Theists.

I am an Atheist myself. But I won't look down on people who believe in something they have not seen.

I believe that alien life exists, because with the expanse of the universe, I don't think it's possible that Earth is the only planet to support life. But I've never seen an alien.

So I would be a hypocrite to be condescending to those who believe in God.

I DO however look down upon:

-People who allowed fear of Hell to consume them and force them into religion.
-People who use the fear of Hell cosntantly to force people into their religion
-People who use religion as an excuse to harm others.
-People who never drop it. That never shut up to me about how I'm "wrong"

So you're talking what, 80% of the religious community? :P
I'm not saying they do all of these things, but most people do at least one (last one esp.)
