As long as they know it's belief and not fact, then I don't.

A very valid point. I wouldn't be necessary condescending if this were to happen to me, I would probably just shake my head, and leave.

I myself am a theist, so this may be biased but i don't look down to them. I respect their belief as long as they have acquired that belief themselves and not through mindlessly following others.

Actually, good point. I should have aimed this thread at Atheists.

And, no matter how they came about it, I don't care. That is, until they have the audacity to judge me.

i am atheist, the god of classical theism makes no sense to me, i do not believe in him/her and their attributes or not internally coherent.
However each to their own, i'm not one to judge somebodies beliefs.

Anyone who believes in any religion that they did not create themselves is following the beliefs of others, mindlessly. Beliefs need to be justified for them to be valid. However I do not attempt to force my beliefs onto others who do not justify theirs. Instead I avoid conflict and simply internally reject their ideas as I know they hold no merit. If challenged I attempt to present my view and support it while not attacking other views in the process. Religion is a matter of belief and justification of said belief. A belief in God does not make you any less intelligent than someone who does not, even if you can not justify your belief as what counts as justified belief is a belief that can not be justified itself.

You're a slave to the collectivist morality.

Far from thinking for yourself, you have accepted reams of contradictory arguments, only the apex of which is to "respect all views equally". If your view contradicts the view of another then it is impossible to respect both views. Acceptance of two contradictory views causes a mental state called cognitive dissonance.

Do You Look Down (Intellectually) to Theists?

I do not accept the two views. I am firm in what I believe and justify it appropriately. If showing people their logical mishaps were all it took to change their beliefs about god, then I would as it would improve their lives. However, it is obvious that this is not the case and attempting to change die hard religious believers that they are wrong just causes them pain and brings me no joy. Thus I respect them and do not try to change their beliefs even though I "know" they are wrong.

There is no reason to be. I am condescending towards ignorance. A lot of people let their beliefs get in the way of common sense.

Intellectually, in a way, yes. It's pretty obvious religions are false. Not being able to recognize that shows a lack of existential intelligence.

Do You Look Down (Intellectually) to Theists?

    Lets rephrase this question.

Do you Look Down (Intellectually) to Atheists (Non Believers)?

    And then someone responded.

Intellectually, in a way, yes. It's pretty obvious religions are true. Not being able to recognize that shows a lack of existential intelligence.

I wouldn't say I look down on them intellectually, however I think belief in a God is the product of an emotional neurosis.

He didn't support his opinion here but he easily could. Religions can not do that.

Do You Look Down (Intellectually) to Theists?

I don't look down on them. Most believe that they are being more intellectual than someone who who believes in religion (in that sense, I do look down on them). But as far as the religious beliefs, I don't really care one way or the other.

I know what I believe in, If they want to believe in something else then that is entirely on them. I am not the person to judge how they process simple thought.

May I ask who votes to explain their vote? I'm not intellectually condescending because I don't see a reason to judge someone's intelligence because of their faith.

Yes someone could say that, but we can agree that the premise that "religion is obviously true" is false, right?

Since that premise is false it makes his argument invalid.

I am atheist and leave each religion to there own belief's and keep my thought's to myself, as what may sound/seem bizzare to me may be perfectly normal to another culture and vice versa. I do have question's but would need to see something that farfetch'ed to belive it.

    I'm Noob :)
