Why I hate banks? Do you?

So today the biggest bull happened.

I use Well Fargo which is better than Chase in my opinion and based on my area in Colorado (Weed town).

Today, some guy used my card in a Luxembourg (Germany) in an arcade store. Now I am unable to access any of my bank accounts for 24 hours.

No idea how he got my card info that I only use it in Well Fargo ATM to withdraw cash and I always pay with cash or paypal.

Now feeding my cat my debit card (cancelled debit card)

I have wells fargo and chase and specifically requested for an ATM only with no VISA logo. What you should do is go back in your bank and request for a ATM only card. Use a credit card for ALL purchases.

 

Can they really do that? Also, can I use the card for paypal or only atm only?

 

Banks are absolute shit. Annoying security measures like that/other restrictions, fees, etc.

I use google wallet exclusively as a debit card. You can't overdraft, can get cash at an ATM if you need to, no fees adding money to it. One click check out online, no maintenance fee.

I'm too young to have a very substantial savings, so currently I keep bitcoin, silver, some stock, and a mutual fund. Anything else goes directly onto my google wallet account.

Maybe you entered your information on a fraudulent website. Lets me honest, banks have pretty strong security systems considering they have to be given a permit by the government to handle other peoples money.

 

Yeah I don't use banks, then people get weirded it out that I don't have a verified paypal or bank.

Yeah pretty sure it's your fault for losing your credit card info, not the bank's. Call up WF, tell them what's up, you'll get a new card, and life will be fine.

 

You're mad because your bank put a security lock on your accounts? I'd be pretty thankful, if somebody can get your card information, there's a great chance they can access your accounts too. Your bank might have saved your accounts from being wiped clean.

 

He got both card information and account numbers which is impossible in my opinion unless they got a breach.

Few people got their info stolen according to the bank, so it's probably something but the bank wont admit it.

Oh, that stinks. Yeah, I've heard there were several data breaches in the financial sector last year (and maybe one this year too).

 

?? People steal credit cards all the time. This is in no way, shape, or form uncommon. Millions upon millions of financial records are compromised each year. Heck, you could even be suffering from the 2013 Target breach. But it's relatively unlikely that WF suffered a breach and no one mentioned it. As Dracon mentioned, it's good WF notified you instead of letting this guy make off with your money. Also, bitcoins are up $1.67 today. I doubt you were buying multiple btc, so you probably lost out on less than a few dollars. I think that's well worth the security WF is going to provide in instances such as these.

Yeah bank security can be pretty whack at times. I once used my debit card at an atm at a hockey game to withdraw $20, and they blocked access to my bank account upon suspicions of my card being stolen until I went into a branch and confirmed that it was me who made the payment...

 

I'm too young to register a bank account. Similar to DD, I only use Google Wallet and bitcoins when purchasing. Nowadays you can trade BTC for anything online.

 

Of course you can get an ATM only card but you will NOT be able to use it to make transactions ANYWHERE. ATM only card is specifically used only to pull money out of an ATM.

 

Every reply in the thread should be use bitcoin.

 

They aren't that bad, as long as you play it safe. I'm not a stickler against them, aside from the interest and fees- which is a huge turnoff traditional banks.
