Honestly I lol'd at this, "dumb" and "your" anyway, yeah having good grades does help determine your college, your job application, it all goes there, people like your boss can access it, people like the colleges as well can, they do this because they don't want to waste time and money on someone who has no intelligence.

Grades show your WILL to work. I have poor grades, and yet.. I like to learn and I like to have intellectual conversations as well as present myself well, especially while fighting bureaucracy on a regular basis.

Getting poor grades (as I have gotten) gets you into regular or lower classes, and you get VERY POOR teachers.

Those teachers help to dig a deeper hole for yourself.

Grades really give you some leverage when it comes to arguing and fighting teachers etc.

I end up with the most brainless teachers around and I wonder why they teach.

I wish tenure never existed, so I could get every brainless teacher fired.

My teachers seem to think that because they're teachers, what they say is factual and correct. And somehow they get student backing, aka "ganging up on the arguer".

Considering that you just wrote the longest run-on sentence with no breaks, and had many spelling mistakes, I'd say grades are ACCURATE since yours are bad.

    That's how I correct my sentences ;).

And actually, I am failing 2 classes, but I could pass if I just try harder. Grades tell you if you are trying in school. Tests, quizzes, and exams test your knowledge.

Please tell me, how did I lose? You have not proven anything. my statement about a very small fraction of kids go to private schools and even less go to ones that teach religion still holds water, so please tell me how did I lose this arguement if you cannot put anything credibal to go against my statements then you are the one who lost.

    Do grades

Formal education is a joke. Not many kids like school, actually I don't know anyone who likes school, yet some of these people do good in school because they want to be successful, I am one of these people also.

Learning is much easier when you are actually interested in the subject. When I am debating in the SFA section for instance, and I look up a source to help my argument and read it, that information stays in my head for a very long time. If I had to look something up for school, I would probably forget what that article was about.

Most people do not even remember what they learned last year, I know I only remember the information that was what I thought was interesting or useful. You basically have to study really hard to pass the end of the year test, and after that everything is flushed down the toilet and you forget it. Waste of time if you ask me.

According to Howard Gardner, there are seven types of intelligence:

    1. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence (number/reasoning smart)
    2. Existential Intelligence
    3. Interpersonal Intelligence (people smart)
    4. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence (body smart; sports)
    5. Linguistic Intelligence (word smart; use language effectively to describe things)
    6. Intra-personal Intelligence (self smart)
    7. Spatial Intelligence (picture smart; spacial intelligence)

Now think about how many of these intelligences are accounted for in class.

Personally, I think we need to do away with formal education as a whole. It is much easier to learn if there is a need or a desire to learn than to sit at a desk for hours cramming information into your brain. This could save a lot of time and money, and we could get our kids smarter faster.

The alternative to academia would be to create learning webs. People need easy access to educational resources. More about that in "Deschooling society" by Ivan Illich. Full text can be found here: http://reactor-core.org/deschooling#chapter6

i dont believe a person's intelligence is reflecteed in his/hew grades. grades only reflect a small portion of said person's work eithec, and whether they care about school or not.

Its not the intelligence of a person, the tests and quizes that make up the grade test your knowledge on the material

    ok, i just have to put this in a perspective;
if you are smart, but to lazy to work, are you really smart then?;s
The grades can decide what job and salery you, if you don't bother work to get a good future, how can you call your self smart?

and, just to mention; there are severale types of intellegence.
example social intellegence and "IQ" intellegence; in my oppinion it is like 1 weight up for another, if a person is incredibly smart, he's not often very smart in social mathers...
both are very important skills, but only 1 is mentioned... :)

motivation and inteligence are two diferent things. if you are motivated to get good grades then whoop-di-fing doo.

however you coudl be smart and not be motivated to do anythign this may be seen as beign stupid because you arent actualy do ignany work.

    so there.
