hi

just read about charge backs and i'm kinda clueless. Does processing a payment via a donation button prevent charge backs ?

thx in advance

Don't think so. If the other person used a stolen paypal I'm pretty sure the original owner can reverse ANYTHING.

but at the same time if you have detailed proof of the trade, you can then report it to paypal for fraud, which is abit worse then a sythe ban..

No. There is no method for paypal to avoid a chargeback. Nothing and nothing at all.

Do this :

- Ask a person to send the payment via gift, to open an unauthorized claim and close it (you can skip the last step if the seller is trusted, if the amount is very low).

- Wait atleast 20 minutes before providing the goods if you are a seller. Most of the time, if the funds are fraudulent, you will see a dispute.

- If the amount is big enough, make sure it is the buyer's account. Call to his paypal number, ask for a blanked ID card/driver's licence picture (Skip this step if the buyer is very trusted or if the amount is not worth your wasted time).

So it seems that you are going to use someone eles's paypal to do donation!
But chargebacks can not be avoided. unless you pay by paypal balance!

No, he/she is cannot chargeback if you made a Paypal as a donation. If it's a hacked Paypal account, the real owner is able to get her/he's money back.

Have them send it as a gift, but in the text have them write a disclaimer of something like "I have bought and received my virtual goods, and hereby i pledge not to chargeback" That's pretty rough, but if paypal see that then he can't chargeback

Completely untrue. Not only would paypal know you are trying to beat the fees by accepting gifts, but a note has no jurisdiction whatsoever on the outcome of a dispute. If someone wants to chargeback a payment 99% of the time they will get away with it, gift/note or however they paid.

Can't send as gifts, if caught paypal does punish you.. Be warned, it's not anything serious but still.. You been warned.

Good advice.

The claim/cancel method used to be highly recommended here, but if you do it frequently paypal locks your account. Pretty suspect when you have a dispute filed for every transaction.

No, it doesn't. It just makes it so the buyer can easily purchase the item you're selling for the price you set. They can always charge-back whenever they please.

To be honest that doesn't help at all.
PayPal can still always hold your money and people can chargeback anytime they want.
