Ban Venmo From Sythe

Suggesting we ban the payment method Venmo & lock threads using it.

I sent an inquiry to venmo support heres the response I received:

It's 100% unsafe to use, and merchants aren't allowed to use it.

This is just a scam fest, shouldn't be allowed on sythe, there is no way to protect urself from disputes.

Payments can be cancelled at any point and u'll auto lose.

Scam fest.

 

Do you have examples of people actually using it? I haven't ever seen it on Sythe so it would be fairly pointless to disallow it

Going to side with Bus here, mostly because he's somewhat legendary for having an account still at this point. I've only seen sketchy newcomers using Venmo to buy gold if I recall. If it was a legit way to transfer money safely, I'm sure more people would be using it.

There's a new thread buying for Venmo almost every other day.

People are buying gold off people who don't realize its instantly reversible and poof, their scammed.

I'm not familiar with it but if it's proven that it can be abused/manipulated easily I'll support the global ban of it

It's a free market. It shouldn't be banned. Just because it's against Venmo's terms of conditions doesn't mean we should just ban it.

If we're banning this, ban Paypal as well because it's pretty easy to get your money back from them too. Putting restrictions on payment methods just restricts the market.

If I trust someone enough for them to send me Venmo, let them use it.

Putting restrictions on payment methods restricts the market- Yeah from scammers lol, what legitmate trader is going to be using INSTANTLY REVERSIBLE payment method?

also, venmo is owned by paypal... it shouldnt surprise anyone that their buyer/seller protection is flaky at best

also also, keep in mind that sythe is just a platform for willing traders to meet each other. we don't accept any forms of payment directly. it's up to the traders using the platform to determine by which means they want to conduct their transactions. we can - and should - have a warning that venmo is risky business, but banning it outright doesn't make sense

 

Support this should be banned. With so many payment methods available, anyone choosing to use this to pay just doesn't fit the bill for me. It sounds odd. This should be removed although Admires has a fair point, safety for users should come first.

If you want to ban Venmo, get rid of the Runescape account sales section.

You're essentially saying that if something is easy to get back, it should be banned. Runescape accounts fits this criteria. I don't know why Venmo is being targeted.

Venmo is not a payment method meant to be used to purchase any form of goods(virtual or physical).

Venmo is miles off what paypal is, its meant to only be used between friends and family(which is why u can instantly reverse payments), it is not a safe method to allow users to market with(buying or selling).

People are abusing Venmo vs its intended purpose, Sythe staff need to step in and put a stop to it.

U cannot use the free market argument as Venmo is being used here against its intended purpose, Rs accounts and whatnot(admires above example) is completely & utterly invalid.

If you want to really see scamming on Sythe, go to that section. It's an actual scam fest.

 

A warning isn't a valid solution, that's basically just telling people "hey Venmo is unsafe" when infact nobody on here should be using it in the first place.

According to Jagex's ToS you can't sell gold, however, you still do. Stop using Vemno's ToS as a reason to ban it.

Also, Sythe is based on a free market. Account buying is very unsafe, and there has been attempts to ban it, however, it hasn't been banned because once again, Sythe is a free market and users are free to set the terms of a trade.

I don't get your logic of banning Venmo when there are numerous risky trades that go through Sythe everday, a big one being account trading.
