Disappearing names?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but It seemed fitting.

How come some names disappear when they are seemingly being transferred. For example, '6' and 'U' were both on my friends list last week and they both turned to #2394983498 (after being changed to something offensive I'm guessing).

Now, if you try to add either of the names, it will say "Unable to add friend - unknown player". You cannot create them either.

I have always wondered why this happens and would love to find out Thanks!

 

That happens to me too, I think Jagex knows you sold them and/or transferring, so they just delete. idk.

 

I think they usually come back though. G is a name that disappeared for about a month, and was recently given back to the original owner.

It was transferred, and the original owner claimed that someone hacked his account and transferred the name. I'm guessing Jagex must've banned the user who got G, and put the name back on the original account.

 

What happend was both 'U' and '6' got deleted because there where reported.

G was gone because they were banned. I'm not 100% sure about which account it is currently on, as I didn't bother to keep track, but I think it is back on the original account. Btw, the current owner is not the original.

 

G was changed to G-Trooper, now it is changed back to G.

So do you think that U and 6 were banned for transferring names? I didn't think you could get banned for that

 

Yes, but before that new name, it was banned. That's why it "disappeared".

 

Do account names turn to #987394503 when they get banned? That is the only way this whole thing makes sense to me.

Ahh, and then the old name is freed up in a month or something?

And if the person is unbanned within that month, they are able to get it back, like what happened to G?

 

I don't know as much on the whole 'name matter' as some others are but, as far as I know, the whole number thing happens when a name is deleted and said account(s) don't currently have an official name(which is why if that happens, you normally have to make a name upon logging ingame). That includes banned accounts that get unbanned and their names are deleted.

Btw, I don't think the name transferring issue is as much of the problem as them thinking some kind of rwt'ing is involved.

That depends. Once a name is deleted, it normally is instantly able to be gotten by someone else. Except now, Jagex has been known to 'hold names hostage'(as in make them unavailable to anyone, and kind of depends on the name) to try to prevent rwting from touching said name(s). If, for whatever reason, they think that the account owner unfairly lost it(from a hack or something), they may give the name back if it feels like the right choice to them(although it's obvious they have know clue what they have done sometimes).

 

I'm guessing a lot of people try to transfer names on a different IP, and if they don't get the name, they just say they were hacked. Hopefully jagex doesn't frequently give back names that were "stolen".

I wonder how long jagex holds names hostage. I wouldn't think they'd just completely wipe out a rare name for good.

 

They can hold them as long as they want, in order to prevent them from being 'rwted'. There is one case where they let someone take a name that was 'on hold' (the guy who now has the name CW because he wanted). They let him have it but said they'd be watching it from now on.

 

I wish they would let me have "Banker". It has been frozen for some time. And thanks for all the replies

 

I think I saw a scam report that U got snipped a week or two ago.

So the guy that stole the name must've just gotten banned I guess.
