I have had this idea for a while, and I just want to see if anyone thinks anything similar to it. I'm looking to get a good discussion going here, this isn't so much a question I need answered.

The common idea right now is that bots are the reason why gold prices are so low. For some reason though, I feel like it is more than just because of bots.

Lets just start with things on a simple level.

I think the problem is that there are way to many gold coins in the game. There are botters for just about any activity in Runescape, but lets look at the resource gathers. These people are bringing into the game resources, not the gold coins themselves. I almost feel that they are not much of the problem.

The biggest problem right now I believe is ridiculous coin drops, the coin share for boss killing, and high alching. Any time someone gets a good drop, and they get like a 20M-50M split it brings in a lot of coins to the game.

Imagine in Runescape if coins were difficult to come across. I don't feel that it would matter how many ores I mined, if I can't sell my ores than what do I really have?

Sorry if I have confused anyone. If you don't really get what I'm saying I can try to explain it better.

Making money is easier now these days, but its still crazy how there's so much gold in the game just because of alchers and coinshare. More inflation into the game from them = lower prices of resources = cheaper gold.

Yeah that is true cheaper gold prices. I just feel like if theres one good way to help this game its to create some kind of money dump. I don't think there has been one in a long time. They need to come up with a new and original idea for it. Not just some new expensive armour or weapon we have enough of those.

Well, that was Jagex's goal with Construction, and with the new Dungeoneering as well, with the Chaotics and everything. We just need a skill/game/activity that takes out huge chunks of money from the game.

coinshare is probably the largest factor as there were always large amounts of alchers

Go take econ 101, you will see quickly that your statement is rather flawed. You are dancing around the idea of the GP, a currency, losing value as more and more of it is introduced into the market (of runescape). However, if this were 100% true then prices would be going up, on all items. Yet if we use an arbitrary item like the maple longbow (U) and compare the price of it in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 we will see that the value of a longbow (u) has fluctuated a bit during '09, '10 but hardly no difference in the years of '07 and '11. Indicating that the amount of items that gold can buy has not changed, that is to say the purchasing power of the GP has not changed in free trade times.

^ dis gay. he kn0ws wat de fucks up.

I'm in AP Econ right now and lyke. Yea. If Runescape had a government that was able to regulate banks, you could bet your ass that interests rates for loans would be high as hell. ;).

Ive played since 2005, the only good money making methods were either picking flax/WC or Fishing at these times. I remember when D Med prices were about 600k ea and dragon legs were 2.2M, like all items apart from the Rares have gone down, and the fact that everything goes down and they're is so many more ways to make money now. even the levels 80 who used to only have around 250k - 750k can now walk around with like 10M+ it's all messed up now lol

You hit it right on the spot man. Everyone complains "Oh gold is crashing, so many bots."

That has nothing to do with it, because they gather items, then sell the items, they don't create gold unless they sell to a shop.

The thing that's creating too much gold were the old PvP drops, where someone wearing 2m worth of items would drop a 5m item, and also these group loot drops from bosses.

I would think a lot of it has to do with alchers. They turn the item's that are being mass-harvested into cash. Naturally over time the gold would build up.

I remember having trouble making money for full addy. Also being deathly afraid in the wildy because I worked so hard for this rune armor.

You have a valid point, but if the gold was more scarce, then goods exchange would come into hand, and the "junk" v. "rare" debate would come into hand, and item value via wealth would no longer matter, and the entire economy would be crippled. I'd say it's best that there are shit tons of gold.

How exactly does coinshare introduce large quanties of gold? As far as I can tell, it just makes a temporary cash infusion, which it soon removes. Remember, the items are sold on the G.E. for mid, and the cash is removed. Since the group splitting gets 5% less, cash is actually removed, unless an item is crashing.

Coinshare put the item that was supposed to get dropped, in the GE
So no coins are brought into the game.
