    What Kind Of Reading Material?

I've wrote short stories averaging at a few per year since I was young and in school.

In highschool I wrote a report on the Kurt Cobain conspiracy (why his death WASN'T suicide) that was over 300 pages, I enjoy writing.

I was considered trying to write a book that was good enough to be published and actually be bought and enjoyed by many people, and even though I have wrote a lot of short stories (most of them under 100 pages) I've shared very few of them, most of my writing is to pass the time, however I shared a small section of one of my stories on here and seemed to get very good feedback, and put one of my full stories on a "writers" website and got amazing feedback there.

But like I said, I havn't read much since I got out of school and I have no clue what is popular, or what people enjoy these days.

I'm purely a fantasy writer, I have done a couple short stories about modern times, but they were horrible... So no matter what, I'm going to write a fantasy story... dragons, monsters, demons, knights, barbarians, giants, that kind of thing...

This post has 2 main reasons....

I already said one of them, which is wanting to write a story that would actually be published and sold in book stores...

The other reason is what I've been wanting to write... For around 2 years now I've wanted to write a story like a journal. So instead of going far into detail and telling every step the hero makes, I'm wanting to write a story that looks like a hero's journal... and a real one, not a new entry every single day, maybe make some of the journal entries weeks or months apart from each other, but still having enough detail to tell the full story of his adventures.

I remember when I was alot younger I read a book that was made of Kurt Cobain's journal, the font used in the book made it look hand written like a real journal (but it wasn't, it was a massly published book, not a real journal) and I REALLY enjoyed the experience of reading it.

But would that even interest people in todays world? I mean, I expect journals of celebrities, especially dead ones, are still pretty popular, but this isn't a celebrity, it would be a made up character writing about things that never really happened in the real world and even though I know I would enjoy writing that kind of thing as well as reading it, right now I'm pretty interested in publishing a book and actually selling it, so if this isn't the type of thing that people would be interested in buying and reading, it will just have to wait until I atleast attempt being a "real" author.

One of the book series i've read lately is The Kane Chronicles, which is a little bit like what you want to write. It is based in Modern Day but goes into the fantasy style with Egyptian Mythology.

Take a look at the first book of that series The Red Pyramid, as it is also slightly like a journal with it being as if it was recorded on a dictaphone.

Lately, Fantasy Novels have been hugely popular with the Percy Jackson, Lord Of the Rings, Hobbit, Harry Potter and Twilight saga's becoming hugely famous.

Just if your novel "WHEN" it gets published, becomes a Hollywood blockbuster, give me an acting part in it :p.

You should... try reading... Kinoko... Nasu's writing... Since you seem to... like... ellipses... so much...

    This.

With the grammar skill I've seen you portray in this thread, I'd say hold off on trying to write an award-winner for a bit, until you can stray away from ellipses, and incorrect grammar. Another thing I noticed was how nearly all of your sentences are run-ons. I have trouble believing you've written a short story and got the feedback you claim to have gotten. Link us to the "writers website" you mentioned, man. I'd like to see if you just made some typing slip-ups, or just need some work, honestly.

Anyway, I enjoy the books Ellen Hopkins puts out. You can find her work here. Books that young adults or teenagers can relate to in some way are sure to captivate an audience quicker than something nobody has any relation to whatsoever. Keep that in mind as you write.

How i write on the net is NOTHING like I write when I write a story... When I post on a forum thread that has nothing to do with grammar or anything I type watever will get the message out the fastest. when ur on facebook chattin to friends do u carefully check ur spelling and grammar?

but lately ive had no higher hopes when posting on sythe than sum1 to think i wud type the word "someone" as "sum1" in a serious writing situation.

I don't have to check. It just comes naturally.

I don't have the best spelling or grammar, but I write/type the same no matter the circumstance. You need to start incorporating good spelling and grammar into your Facebook conversations etc. Just so it comes to you naturally.

Also, try putting an ebook or something on Sythe, for free, so you can get a little feedback.
And if you want a good book, it's good to go into charity shops and buy a book there. They're very cheap and there's a huge range to pick from. Thats what I do and I've read a few good ones (some have been terrible but I don't complain because of the price).

All i can say is there a lot of shit being put out on books just like albums. But every now and then you pick up Lord of The Rings or Harry Potter and it's a freaking adventure. I hope your able to make another one for me to go on because i have not read a good book in a while.
