    Do you trade futures? Advice needed
    Hey guys,

    I trade US equities only, but I'm looking for something to trade during European market hours.
    EU stocks are not an option for me, because of high commisions.
    I was thinking about futures.
    Which product-s should I trade on 5-15k account?
    Any advice or thoughts are appreciated ^_^

    futures commissions are almost certainly gonna be higher than those of normal shares. also you generally have to buy larger lots with options so doubt you can afford more than a few with $10k to spend.

    Do you trade futures? Advice needed
    Ty for your advice. Sorry I did't mean futures on stocks, but mainly on commodities. I belive that it is more suitable for day trading, because commisions on European stocks are damn high compared to US (as far as I know) which is unacceptable for small accounts.

    I'm looking for something from this list http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/products/ , as it's traded almost all day long. Do you have any thoughts? I have almost 0 experience in this field, but I'm willing to learn.

    I tried fx when I started with trading. Nowadays I rarely trade currencies, as I think it's really tough market. It really doesn't suits me.

    ot - i dont have any experience with commodity training, but you should trade pork bellies because, seriously, how can you pass up a chance to trade 20 tons of bacon per contract on a day-to-day basis?? http://www.investopedia.com/university/commodities/commodities16.asp

    Ah right right I misread. I don't know much about commodity trading either, but according to a few friends of mine.. They swear crickets are the next huge commodity (haha)

    OP sorry I couldn't be much of a help - but do fill us in on what you decide to do. pretty interesting stuff

    Do you trade futures? Advice needed
    Update:

    Alright as a result of my research I discovered that futures product are leveraged in a different way, than stocks, closer discribed here on Investopedia.

    I decided to target mainly on Crude Oil -CL, because that's the only product I've been watching on a weekly basis and made a few trades on USO ETF.

    I'll continue on my research and will choose 2-3 products that I think will suit me the best.

    high leverage = high risk. dont get in too deep that you cant get out

    also have fun trading oil. should pan out well for you in the long run but given that your strategy is day trading not sure how that'll be day to day. report back with how it goes!

    Yes, you are right. I do not like to leverage, however I cannot buy whole lot for ~40k, so it is nice that at least I can buy it on margin.

    but yeah, even with stocks I never cross 1:2

    Been scalping the sp500 futures for a few days now. paper money just learning. It's pretty interesting stuff and much more fast pace

    I'd first off like to warn you for the HUGE amount of risk that futures trading with commodities holds. The leverage in these trades is insane, so you should really know what you're doing.

    Crude oil is a great option, as is wheat and gold. The markets are however very unstable, and trading outside of your timezones hold certain risks, as you probably know.

    I would not trade CL on a $10k account. If I remember correctly the margin requirement is like $9000 for a single contract. And the tick size is $10 for every cent of the price movement.

    If you still plan to day trade commodity futures you can have a look at softs (sugar, cocoa etc.), they require much lower initial margin.

    How much experience do you have in trading commodities?
    If you're brand new, you will most likely lose a lot.
