Difference between Online & Live Poker?

Hey, so I play a fair share of online poker as of the past few years and I consider myself a half decent player, majority of the time I place in the money and sometimes make top 10 out of 1500 players.

Now I’ve never played live but found a casino literally a 5 minute walk away that hosts daily tournaments with decent prizes for the buy in price.

How different is online to live and can I expect to have the same outcome in these tournaments as online, I’m aware there’s a lot more to tell body language wise but I do think I’m quite a difficult person to read up close.

    Cheers in advance

Yeah that really is completely different in person.

People who are really in the game in reality are born straight professionals, know every ins and outs, bluffing, reading people regardless, It's quite head bobbling to know lol.

Also you would probably be put under ALOT of pressure especially never experiencing something like that before, it's easier said than done basically, and you also never know who's on the table with you!

I feel as if online is much tougher. You have the grinders that are 5-6 tabling with their HUDs. Go there and just play your game, look for tells and don't be the guy who sits at the table with shades and a hoodie and doesn't make a noise the whole night. This applies more to cash but if you're friendly/act cool with the other people by joking around, having a drink and playing a bit loose (at times) it'll help improve your table image a lot.

It's a lot slower-paced and the rake is much higher. Traveling all the way to the casino to play a $70 buyin tournament, $20-$25 of which goes to the casino, playing for hours and at best walking away with about $600 is pretty underwhelming. I'd actually recommend you try it out as a good place to start but don't consider playing the nightly tournament regularly. Your casino should have better tournaments that they offer maybe once a month or every couple months

The real poker experience differs a lot from the virtual one. The main thing is that you need to learn to keep your cool. What I'm trying to say is that the "pokerface" is mandatory during IRL games.

Thanks for the information boys, I’ll take what you guys have said into consideration, think I’ll be playing tonight but yeah @video the usual tournaments are between 20-50 buy in with 1-3K GTD/night but the first Sunday of each month is ‘Super Sunday’ with a 15K GTD so I’ll probably take a stab at that too :p

Live poker is easier to shake out your opponents if they're short stacked.

Playing poker in the casino generally there is more donks then online or fun players that are just punting there stacks and if you live in a big city like me London you tend to find a lot of free money if playing cash games.
