The Paypal Blacklist - Making trades safer

The PayPal emails can stay, but no need to put full names there. Reasons:

    1. Functionality: listing of full names has not prevented a scam from happening. On the other hand, listing of emails might. Naming does not serve an actual purpose and even if it does, it does not weigh up against the following points
    2. In the case that a PayPal account is stolen, Sythe is essentially doxing a total stranger. I mean it's 2022, we all know that blackhatting is not an exclusive obscure dark web thing. People stealing/buying PayPal accounts is a common criminal activity.
    3. All sorts of privacy rules/laws are most likely violated (inb4 GDPR has no jurisdiction)

The question really is: what is gained and at the expense of what? In my opinion, not much is gained, and in the case that there are actually stolen PayPal accounts there and an employer google's that person's name and stumbles upon Sythe, then that's some major irreversible damage.

Pretty sure there were vaders cought based on name match cus they used same IRL information on diff paypal account to get it verified so it kinda does help ?=

And if your paypal account gets somehow hacked OO of that paypal acc is still liable doesnt really matter if that guy is some random dude who never even used sythe. So im not really sure why his name wouldnt be leaked.

    so no support from me

As much as I agree with you with many things, this I personally feel shouldn't be supported for once

The way I see it, the victim is the victim here not the person who has not secured their information enough. I understand it can happen to anyone at any given time, but scamming is scamming and we should be allowed to protect ourselves (maybe it could be argued it shouldn't be public, but more staff-known)

The problem you will face in reality is people will always steal something if they can, that's how the scum of the earth work. The other problem we face on the other side of reality is some people are far too easy going, and don't know how the market always works

It's happened quite often where someone who scammed years ago returns to Sythe to ask to be removed from the PayPal listing as apparently it's causing issues for them in their lives. That's exactly some kind of proof where the thread does what it's meant to do: giving scammers an incentive to repay the debts they owe. Albeit being repaid to community repayment funds, with a high possibility of never being returned to the actual scam victim (which I still disagree with), atleast they'll have a reason to repay their debts. After that, they usually can request their names to be redacted from the thread.

    I agree with this,

as @Wortel it sort of in some sense it ruining some people's lives, while I think for people whose actions have actually been caught, their names should be listed there but we have no way to verify it's actually them, it could be the wrong person and destroying some life who has done nothing wrong is not right

Yes, this exactly is the weigh-off.

IMO (from a principled pov) if we ruin even one innocent man's life, then the harm done is much worse than not mentioning a couple of scammers who loopholed through PayPal's flawed chargeback system. Not doxing an innocent person is also more important than potentially a couple of people paying to the community fund. The argument basically works the same as the principled argument against the death penalty - same analogy.

Having a public record makes it more difficult for people to actively commit fraud. We will not be changing the paypal blacklist.
