[DENIED] Market filter

There should be an option to filter through threads to get the best results for yourself. The newest threads would always be seen first regardless of the filter.

This filter should/can include:

Join date (from old to new)
Post count (from most to least)
Donor (showing threads created by users who donated to the site | could be from most to least)
Non-TWC (shows threads by users who do not have a TWC)
Non-Banned (shows threads by users who are not banned)

It’s more effective being available to everyone, especially newer users.

 

Don't see this being viable, or necessary really. Most the people who get scammed are new and don't read, most old users already know how to expressly browse, if you don't just ask, this would end up being a back burner idea if it were to pass so eh, still no support from me though

 

It’s not about it being a necessity, it’s more so about it being an option. I never mentioned anyone getting scammed, so this isn’t supposed to be a specific system built towards that. It is meant to be multipurpose.

 

Convince me this wont dramatically impact the market.

This seems like a good idea on the surface but theoretically could have ALOT of impact site-wide.

How are twc users suppose to get trades if everyone filters them out? How are new users or non-donors? How are new users that want to build their business but don't have postcount suppose to compete?

I could see this easily influencing the market even more so towards the monopolies that already exist because they would instantly meet the qualifications for all these filters that other users might not.

Also most of these filters are useless, if you filter by donor your going to have 95% of the same threads, that doesn't help anybody lol, same thing goes for postcount when everyone has a shit ton due to autobumpers, non-banned is self explanatory.

I actually thought of ALOT more effects this would have but you can see my train of thought.

I don't like it - This is all about one question really - Are we prepared to push users towards higher donors/higher postcount/non-twc'd users/etc - It seems to violate the core that is sythes market which is that everyone is on supposedly "even" ground in a free market. This would just be another step towards forming big business monopolies even larger.

The ironic part is that from the filters you listed I would probably personally benefit a great deal with my profile.

Helping form monopolies is not good for the long-term health of the site or my personal companies. Every filter ran would pretty much contribute directly to that - Maybe very slowly but the ultimate outcome would be you would drive more business to the HQ sythe profiles and gold giants.

It's unfair on new users or non-donators to be put at a disadvantage. It's quite obvious that the main boxes somebody is going to tick on the filter when purchasing a service/item/gold is "Donator" etc.
It's already hard on the market for a new user to gain and grow a business let alone with this new function added.

No support, I agree with that it would weed out all new members / non shop-giants, but I do think that the advanced search (Search Threads and Posts | Sell & Trade Game Items | OSRS Gold | ELO) should allow the option for "OR" type searches in the Keywords box.

And to @Bryan's point if you really want something like this as an option not a necessity, get used to popping up a few tabs of search bars for different keywords.

I tried:

• Commas in between (a, b, c, d)
  
• OR in between
• Commas with no space (a,b,c,d)
• Space-delimited

Unless I'm missing something, seems like this isn't a very effective "advanced" search.

 

This is all assuming a majority of people use the filter and toggle just about every choice available. It would be there as an option, not a necessity. The whole purpose of this would be to improve the quality of market browsing for anyone wishing to do so. Personally, I wouldn’t trade with newer users for certain markets so filtering would be ideal for me. Does this mean I would never trade with a newer user? No. The filter encourages longevity, consistency, and compliant usage of the market. This in turn counters ban evasion, discourages suspicious behavior, and constant account registration by repeat offenders.

Think of it like this. If certain users are filtered, its most likely because they weren't meant to be an option in the first place. This is very true for those given a TWC.

 

This is assuming a majority of users use the filter. A filter as described is meant to weed out unwanted trading partners. New users won’t be affected as much because they still are desired and relied on by many users in the market. This is more so meant for casual users who know who they want to trade with.

And how is that? Seems like a baseless assumption.

It really is all about individual preference of the person.

A few things are true.

1. Every individual has different taste.

2. The filter won’t be used in the same capacity by each user who uses it.

3. It wouldn’t be advantageous to use the filter from a marketable p.o.v.

 

If you want to avoid certain people then just don’t trade with them. If you seriously don’t see the problems with this, then I’ll just phrase it as this’ll have unintended side effects. The marketplace is already just filled with giants spamming their shops, this’d make it worse.

 

How would this make it worse?

These “unintended side effects” you speak of are simply baseless assumptions of what you think is likely to happen. There is no definitive outcome to this other than personal preference being put at the forefront of user experience. Quality of life; nothing more or less.

 

I'm a new user and idk what market to try and get myself in to atm, But I think this is a great idea. Yes if I tried to go into a market it would make it harder for myself, But when I want a service of some sort it would be ideal,Also it gives people an incentive to donate and become even bigger then before. Everyone has made great points towards this suggestion. Besides you would only use a new user if they was cheaper then the most trusted people. So it could actually give new users help in some ways.

People cba to use the filter, would be useless. This is a free-market also. Everyone should get a chance.
I did consider that the filter is optional.

 

I really don’t see how this takes away from anyones chances. If I filter a specific market, I’m weeding out people who had no chance doing business or dealing with me in the first place.
