    Neopets Market

I think this is one of the few games market that's actually still active to this day. I haven't seen much, if any, scam reports since my stay on Sythe. This could be used as counterargument, however I believe that because we require picture proof of nearly all other account/item sales, it's confusing to me why we don't allow the same for Neopets. As a matter of fact, the entire section doesn't have any specific section rules set, just a few guides and warnings. So why don't we add a sticky there, and require proof for account/item threads?

This seems to be a no brainer. Probably something that was just over-looked due to volume vs. other games. Support.

PS - WTF, people still play neopets? Wow, didn't know it even still existed. That was my gateway drug into runescape circa 2002-2003.

I don't see why not. It seems to be one of the most active games in the market (outside of wow/eft/lol/osrs aka a low playercount game) and mostly used by people with low post count/new. So it could help
@Cupcakes would like to see your opinion considering your activity in that market

This seems like a sensible suggestion we’ve got to keep those neopets players as safe as possible.

No problems at all, though it might be annoying to list a large volume of stock at a time because of this. Might have to restructure what I'll choose to sell here then

Just one picture of your inventory or whatever would suffice, perhaps you could even blur stuff out. We don't require proof for RS items anymore either, so perhaps we can scratch providing proof for in-game items if they aren't of much value there - but atleast we should require proof for the sale of accounts.

Not sure if you or @Cupcakes knows but its not wise on Neopets to have so many expensive ($100+ USD) items on one account. If I deliver a shell account per item, providing proof could quickly get annoying if I have hundreds of items lol. Hence my mention of restructuring what I choose to sell here, if at all. Requesting proof of possession of main accounts for sale however makes sense and I 100% back it

I thought we had to provide pictures of anything we're selling?

At least that was always to my knowing, after getting threads locked etc.

I would actually prefer it the other way around - remove the requirement to show pictures in other forums with the Neopets market acting as an example for how this could work.

If implemented correctly, I think this could cut down on headache for both staff and users. As is, people post threads, mods comment on them telling them to adhere to our somewhat arbitrary rules about pictures and other content required on threads, people grumble but then do it, potential customers post asking clarifying questions or things like "hey add me," mods warn them for that, they get pissed and spam our pm, and the deal on offer isn't improved by this whole process in the end.

The alternative is have no required images and have fewer requirements around users' posts. In other words, bring it closer to a Craigslist-type experience where pretty much anything that's not illegal goes. If people want to post inefficient threads and then handle 20 different customers' requests for pictures in pm or dm, let them. If they want to have prolonged conversations in posts on their threads, let them. Eventually people should learn that good pictures = good outcomes, in terms of deals getting done, so this should correct itself after a while. And if not, then sellers are wasting more time dealing with redundant requests, and that's not our problem. Again, if people want to be inefficient, let them. In the end, it results in more clicks -> more engagement -> potentially more deals getting done with less "mods cracking down on the common people" along the way. We would obviously continue to warn people for spam posts (e.g. posting "hey add me" on 20 threads at once); that rule definitely isn't going anywhere.

One counterargument is that this approach would make it easier for scammers to scam. Realistically, I think that most scammers are going to scam, and most non-scammers are not going to scam, regardless of the rules in place.

Pre-populated text could also solve some of this headache. For example, if you made a thread in account sales, it would pre-populate a form for you to fill out (Pic of stats: / Pic of wealth: / Pic of black marks: / etc.) I suggested this for Report a Scammer to a smaller circle of folks a few months ago and know a plugin exists that would enable it on Sythe, but that discussion fizzled out. Really I just want to make everyone's lives easier - if that's inefficient, so be it. But I don't feel like we need as many restrictions as we have in place now.

This is true but also wrong. Scammers will attract new scammers. The lack of punishments we have (everyone has) in place for this will also not help. However I don’t think being reactive instead of being proactive to those situations would help. By your reasoning you might aswell revisit and change all Sythe rules. Surely scammers will be scammers, but that doesn’t mean we have to make it even easier for them. Rules set in place go a long way. Isn’t moderating the whole point of being a moderator?

I didn't take the time to read through the entire thread. But I will offer support. I am not sure how active the section is but if it is required for some sections I believe it should be for all.
