[DENIED] 'Newest Member's Section' Idea

I think it would be beneficial to Sythe to have a section under the "Who's Online" sub-forum for "Newest Members. Perhaps members who joined today/the day of. I see there's already "Newest Member", but having a section like the "Who's Online" for new members that joined within 1 day would be super beneficial imo.

Maybe even for members who have joined within a week.

I think this would be extremely beneficial to help catch vader's and potential scammers. It would give an easy & simple way for people who want to keep the people of this site safe from scammers/vader's by simply going to the "Newest Member's" portion and spending 5-10 minutes doing a bit of research to perhaps catch a vader. I know this would work and anyone can do it and catch vader's themselves.




It would look something like this just under the "Members" portion






I know a couple people who actively view the 'Who's Online' portion and look for patterns/people and catch so many vader's that way. This suggestion would make it simpler and easier for anyone wanting to help keep this site safer and prevent possible scam/scammers.

I don't think xenforo could make another section like the way you want to do it. I may be wrong but the only way to do this would be changing their the user's rank/color which I doubt would happen. Kewl idea broo

 

This already got denied when I tried to get it approved, I still support it but know it will fail once again

 

On the flip side vaders may use that section to intentionally scam legitimately new members.

Not exactly what you want but there's always that it pretty much shows people who have joined today. Might not show all of them but shows a few.

 

Vaders gonna vade. It's nice to see you're trying to rid the scammers from returning but it's just going to slow them down for a short period + make them learn from their mistakes and find out where they went wrong, since private reports are no longer allowed.

I also think staff/ regular members should use their time more wisely than headhunt newcomers on a forum but I do also understand your point, but it merely slows them down as opposed to rid them. There are plenty of guides stickied all over the forums on how to stay safe, there are also plenty of highly reputable MiddleMen on the forum to prevent scams. People new to the forums should read the stickies as opposed to being stupid and handing their money over to sketchy users that have very recently joined/ have very little trades upfront.

 

True but the sad truth is they don't, which is obviously their fault if they fall for a scam when stickies are everywhere to help teach them ways to avoid it.

And yes it will slow them down but that's the point; if I can stop 1 person from being scammed then it's worth it for me. Id rather prevent someone from being scammed then direct them to the stickies so they know for future reference, than have them be scammed and read the stickies after they were already scammed.

No support, I feel like this should be something implemented for staff for catching vaders. There is already a stigma against new users, no need to worsen it.

I talked to @Dunworry more about this in discord to understand more of what he meant and the risks of implementing this, and I can definitely see his point and how it can cause more harm than good. Thank you for the constructive comment

 

Support, I disagree this will increase the number of scams. I am new but reading all the threads to help protech u from scams is pretty easy.

Also could send a message out when newcomers first join linking them to a scam protection thread (yes everyone join for a different game) but the principal is still there.

Do that without the forum providing u additional tools for the entire community to bounty hunt new members and harass them then.

I can appreciate banning scammers as much as the next member but there is a line there, I have no desire for the sites new slogan to be "Welcome to Sythe.org where if your name is on this list or you decide to register with us you will be audited by 50 different people and analyzed and possibly contacted and home IP Twc'd".

Home IP twcs in my opinion were already tip toeing over the line, this DEFINTELY is lol.

 

I completely agree, and now understand why my OP will cause more harm than good.

 

As @veng already mentioned, this is currently available on the forums. Our focus should be on welcoming users, not assuming they are scams waiting to happen, everyone starts somewhere. And as @Dunworry said, making this easier to access would likely make these users targeted more. This has been denied.
