[Denied]Username history on profile

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this but with most users name changing after donating and over time it's kinda hard to remember who's who, I think a good solution would to have some kinda section on profiles to show past usernames of users.

 

We have a thread to keep track of previous name changes, i'm not entirely sure we need this displayed on a users profile.

Well the way I see it you would go on someones profile from discord and be able to quickly and easily see their past names if it was on their profile

to add to this also if I was to google NAME_HERE sythe with their old name their profile should show up if their old name is listed there

 

Personally I think the thread Gen linked is good enough. I can't recall a situation where I urgently needed to look up someone's old name, and UTs are bound to "previously known as [old name]" for six months to smooth the transition.

Your point about googling people is kinda valid though. I guess someone could change their name to try to avoid appearing on search results.

 

I support. I think for ease of visibility, and also transparency, this would be extremely useful. I'm sure others are in the same boat as me, who at times have no idea who certain users are, due to multiple name changes, and in some cases, multiple name changes per user.

 

I support if it is only when you click the user's profile or go to their main page. If I change my name, I changed it for a reason, I do not want to see it on every one of my forums posts.

My main reason for supporting is due to security reasons, but even so, it is very easy to go to the thread that Gen posted and use control + f.

 

I don't support simply because I think we're in an open market where rebranding isn't a bad thing.
As long as you didn't scam or something (which obviously a scammer wouldn't be allowed to name change to begin with) - there's no reason you shouldn't be allowed to rebrand yourself (especially in a market where it matters a lot).

I do think there should be some sort of public record, so in cases necessary, you can look it up, but that's what the thread is for.

im pretty sure most users dont know the list of username changes thread or where to find it without it being linked by someone lol, support

 

Support cus why would i bother to search thru that list if i can just go to someones profile and see previous name not to mention that list will get longer and longer while im getting older and older.

 

Support. I've always wondered why this wasn't already a thing [outside of the specific implementation requirement(s), of course]. The username change record thread is clunky and feels extremely outdated. I too, find myself often times wondering who people are because they've name changed and done a great job of intentionally suppressing previous name(s).

Aside from all of that, I think it'll be valuable to newer members as well.

 

I support this for a few reasons.

1. What are the odds that someone, especially a casual Sythe user or a newcomer, is going to check the username change thread before trading with someone?
2. Other forums have this, so it can't be THAT hard to implement. Just need to find someone who is willing to take on the job for/with Richard.
3. Prevents hiding through multiple name changes, which I've seen happen multiple times. Users with troubled pasts now operate their businesses or side hustles through completely different names and just abandon everything related to the old name(s).

 

Support though I don’t see it being approved/implemented because of the shitload of development work there’s already to do. (User center 7 when??)

 

This change will not be happening per staff discussion. We already have a stickied thread with all name changes here: List of Username Changes

We are in an open market and as Sound mentioned, rebranding is a common thing. If someone has successfully pardoned for their past mistakes, why should we continue to punish them if they donate and decide to change their name? Strict rules are already in place for those wanting to request a name change and gives users a reason to donate and support the site if they would like. Besides, if a big name change is done, user titles are switched to let members know they've recently changed their username for 6 months.
