[DENIED]Hold people accountable for their previous Discord name

If you change your Discord # you should be held responsible for changing every post that you've posted it, it's not hard, it takes maybe an hour and you can use the search (Error | Sell & Trade Game Items | OSRS Gold | ELO) function to search for your # to find posts to edit.

This seems like an easy get around for someone to sneakily scam.
"Sorry that's my old one, look at my signature/new thread."
If you're in the business of trading - you need to take responsibility for any Discord IDs you've posted.

 

Support, easy to do and prevents potential scams.

 

I thought there was a rule on this somewhere for Skype/Discord ID's posted in the last 6 months. I went searching everywhere for it, but I couldn't find it.

There used to be a small mention of something similar in the Sythe rules, but that was removed by @Chloe. I thought it was removed so the other rule could come into effect.

This also existed and I thought it an amendment to the rule I was thinking about above.

I won't be supporting this for a simple reason.

Lets say you have locked threads or you have posted your Discord in multiple locked threads, probably over 100 of them, if you decide to report every post/thread you get hit with this by @Pendulum



I would have supported this but if it ends up crashing the report system and making unnecessary work for staff then I can definitely see this getting out of hand very quickly. Other than that it would be interesting what the current staff team has to say on this and if there would be a way to getting discords in locked posts removed without the need for staff intervention.

 

I honestly have no memory of removing said rule, since I'm huge on making people be responsible for their actions when it comes to safe trading. Are you able to see what the rule was that I removed? (sorry if I misread what you said)

If there was a 6 month rule, then this [Impostor scammed] should be valid since the user used a post made by Tweeter in Feb, and it is only April.

Users just don't seem to care about others safety, I encountered this issue awhile ago as well, a user thought it was fine because "his up to date Discord was in his signature" even though the old Discord was on the front page of one of his thread he was still actively bumping. I would like to see an official rule added.

That's why there is 10+ staff members, every member is able to do a few here & there. Staff members are hired to keep the community clean, and safe. They applied to mod for reasons like this. If they don't want to deal with helping a member remove their old Discord tag to prevent imposters then in my eyes they don't deserve mod lol.

 

This is not an issue, higher staff can do this very quickly. If you're going to report that many threads at once, just reach out to a Global+.

I support this. If a user decides to change their discord, they should accept the responsibility that comes with that. I've seen extremely active and long time users who have a different discord in their profile than they do in their sales threads/signature. It's just confusing and there's no need for confusion. Especially when it can result in a user being scammed.

 

I'd like to see this implemented. People should take responsibility for editing their threads with updated info. "srry u got scammed for 200m by impostor.. new discord was on my other thread" doesn't really cut it.

 

This would have my full support as I'm pretty sure that report you have listed in the OP is not the only one I've seen.

 

Alright so if a Global+ doesn't change the discords in the thread, whose responsibility does it become? The staff's responsibility or the users?

 

I mean sure they might not deserve moderator but that doesn't mean that they are obligated to do a task such as this, if a staff member doesn't want to handle a particular task they can straight up refuse to do it.

Additionally, lets say a user changes their discord multiple times each year, I could potentially see staff getting worn out changing people's discord on their threads all the time. I understand impostoring is a big issue but that is why all discord trades require a Sythe PM because of issues like this that arise.

The only solution I can think of here would be making people taking responsibility for Unique ID's posted but due to this being a free market, nobody can be forced to post their unique ID's, so unless you propose making this less of a free market, a solution to this problem cannot be enforced.

FYI: I can see this potentially causing a bigger issue for reports because users cannot control Discord themselves. If people find a discord exploit and have the exact same name and discrim, does that mean they are liable for that impostor? For example, if there are two Chloe#3333's, does that mean if your impostor scams, you'll be held liable?

TLDR: We should be focusing on promoting Unique Discord ID's as opposed to the actual Discord usernames and Discrims (i.e. #1111).

 

Too easy to abuse, discord name shouldn't be a form of identification since we can get unique ids now( which we should enforce people to post in their threads instead)

We have several stickies in all nearly sections (at least the ones that suffer from Discord impersonation), including several news posts about trading over Discord.

If you are bumping an active market thread with an incorrect Discord ID you are subject to punishment/potential liability:

We expect users to make an honest effort at updating/removing outdated Discords from their posts/threads. At the end of the day, users should never be trading without a PM. @Panda has designed a bot that locks inactive market threads which will assist with inactive discord impostors.
