[DENIED] Introduce a "Staff of the Month" award

Currently we have a member of the month award where the community can nominate a user every month (with some guidelines) who they feel was the most impactful member to themself for that month. I think it would be a cool idea to introduce a 'staff of the month' award where the community can show their support of staff. Aside from that it would maybe motivate staff in a positive way.

Perhaps creating a minirank for staff that win like we have for MOTM. Or not since there is limited staff. Maybe an annual mini. Just an idea, idk.

I know this needs to be approved by CDT and I've mentioned it to some of them already if the community also likes the idea or wouldn't be averse to it.

Thoughts welcome

 

I quite like the idea, I feel that if CDT agrees, we can include this as a part of our events if we pair it with our MOTM feedback as well.

We had this before already. It proved redundant. MoTM is far too often as it is.

Leave the meaningful, and competitive awards for the 'annual awards'. Adding more redundant categories on a monthly basis just detracts from one that people take an actual interest in - the annual awards

I agree with the previous comments though. There isn't enough difference month-to-month to make this interesting enough to merit a contest. Plus video is in the running so no one else has a chance.

I don't support this because we already have MOTM, why do we need a separate one for SMOTM when MOTM can easily be revamped to allow staff members to be voted in. Staff members are people as well, so it would make more sense to allow staff members to get voted in to win MOTM instead of creating a separate competition for it.

Also something else I'd like to mention is (in my opinion), there's not enough staff members to warrant a brand new competition just for staff members only. At least, if staff members were allowed to be featured in MOTM, it would give an opportunity to users to decide whether a staff member is worthy of receiving MOTM or if a non-staff member deserves it more.

 

The thing with staff MOTM is that i'm not sure the community can properly gauge how well a staff member is doing from what they can visually observe publicly.

There is also a popularity vs staff duties argument. I don't want staff members to be put down simply because they don't interact with the community as much as others. Interacting with the community is important, but so is all the hard work being done without social interaction.

I personally do not want something like this to put unnecessary tension between staff members. No support.

But for real though. Some moderators only deal with stuff behind the scenes or in reported posts so the system would automatically favour others and some might get discouraged. No support

 

We used to do this actually. Was actually something ran by yours truly when we had this. Eventually became a popularity contest and didn’t take into consideration behind the scenes work. I wouldn’t care if we get recognized or not but if y’all want it sure.

 

I don't see a point in making this a competition between 3-5 people, in the end it might even discourage them to take action in some controversial reports cuz they will have 1 side hating them regardless.

 

I'm not supporting a Staff Of The Month thingy, though I wouldn't mind having staff members being eligible for the Members Of The Month event. Though it should be underlined that they shouldn't vote based on activity, instead of actual community interaction etc.

Despite the rules for MOTM disqualifying staff members, they are still submitted each month and even win some of the time. Reference below.

No support. MOTM is already a watered down popularity contest.


Edit: I do like your intentions, though. The staff team works hard and we appreciate everything they do.

 

First one was when Pendulum stepped down for like 2 weeks, won it and later on got back mod again. Second one was one month before BlackBlasses became a moderator.
