[Denied] don't allow DNT users to advertise in their signatures

just thought i'd drop this suggestion:

i don't think DNT users should be allowed to advertise anything $ related in their signatures such as links to third-party websites that are for their personal commercial gain.

example:

DNT user has:

- contact methods in their signature

- some offer of service / something $ related / an off-site link

so these users are essentially trading as anyone would because most trades nowadays are done through Discord / Livechats / Websites / Skype (etc etc etc)

although they have a DNT rank, to an unassuming / inexperienced trader they will just add them and trade with them & potentially get scammed & remember the whole point of DNT is to ban them from trading entirely with Sythe users right?

I support the removal of a sig space (and custom UT) for DNT users, as they can advertise their sales/products.

EDIT: I changed my mind that a signature space and a custom user title removal isn't necessary. We just shouldn't allow users to advertise any business, as it could be attempting to trade while DNT.

You can put your contact information for discord along unique on your profiles stat to the right. That includes links with mark down formatting. Next would be to disable that information, and then the user title and so on and so forth.

DNT'd members already do not have access to marketplace or PMing, which is the most common place where a scam (quit) can occour.

That's true. So the solution would be to treat it as an attempting to trade while DNT. I'm not talking about contact details here.

Good example: https://i.imgur.com/HjNxyW2.png - see his signature. They are conducting the business off-site, but it shouldn't be allowed (and perhaps this is already a rule) to directly advertise their sales by any means on sythe.org

There's plenty of ways they can attempt to trade through Sythe and if a DNT user is using their signature to advertise their trades then it can already be reported just as if they were using community sections to advertise. Other information from their signature can also be useful to see if they're vading.

This becomes more of a punishment rather than a protection for others.

I'd assume advertising your business would be attempting to trade while DNT'd since it's not much different than a thread advertising their business to gain customers.

There was a similar suggestion regarding banned user's avatars and the end solution was to report their avatar if you thought it should be removed (i.e. advertising their business)

To my knowledge the system automatically disables signature for a banned users.

Some users may not even know what DNT stands for, when I first started I didn't know what TL;DR , TWC, or DNT meant and especially for other users or people that haven't played scape in years could be mislead.

It should do the same for DNT users. Perhaps it can be added when we update Xenforo.

I agree with this, but I think there should be a grace period of at least a week. When a user gets DNTed for not being able to refund immediately, or because their internet stopped working so it looks like they might have scammed ( Won Gold for example ) , it would be easily forgotten to disable the signature.

Therefor, temporarily disabling it instead would be better I think.

Im pre sure this was suggested like 3x alredy and mods response was if you see someone having Banner in signature or avatar report it and they will manualy remove it.

I've always felt that DNT users should have their entire sig space removed. If this is simple, I support it. I doubt many people care to report a DNT users sig. I understand previous responses to this topic but I still support the removal of DNT users signature spaces.

As others have said, I think it makes sense to treat this as something that falls under the umbrella of "attempting to trade with a DNT" and making it reportable on a case-by-case basis. I don't think signatures/UTs should be entirely disabled but wouldn't mind if they were.
